Without, neither with nor without. Gold and donkey are equal, enemies and friends are equal. Abandon attachment to this samsara. For all dharmas that are free from the limits of elaboration, it is said to be a person of the highest faculty, which is difficult and impossible. Therefore, even a person of medium faculty is difficult, it is said. How is it difficult? For a person of medium faculty, there will be the consciousness of the bardo (intermediate state), so one must train in seizing the dream bardo. What is the need to recognize the dream bardo? Sleeping and dying are similar, dreams and bardo are similar. How are they similar? When one falls asleep, this body of flesh and blood is like a corpse on the bed, but the mind's thoughts can wander anywhere and do anything. A similar thing happens in the consciousness of the bardo, so one must train in recognizing the dream bardo. In general, it is not enough for a person of medium faculty to meditate solely on the meaning of the unborn nature of dharma. One must accumulate the accumulation of merit and take the accumulation of wisdom as the path. How to accumulate the accumulation of merit? It is not enough to rely on great virtue, nor is it enough to rely on small virtue, one must accumulate continuously from all directions. How to take the accumulation of wisdom as the path? One must take both the generation stage and the completion stage as the path. Is it okay to practice only one? Why are both needed? Because a person of medium faculty will have alternating situations, so by practicing the union of the generation stage and the completion stage, even if one does not attain the enlightenment of the first bardo at the time of death, the generation stage can seize the mind, and even if the generation stage cannot seize the mind, the completion stage can seize the mind. If neither of the two can seize it, one can rely on the accumulation of merit not to fall into the lower realms, obtain a precious human body, awaken the karma of previous practice, and thus obtain the fruit of the dharmakaya (body of dharma) and become a Buddha. Which of the two is difficult and which is easy? The behavior of a person of the lowest faculty is easy, so practice that behavior. How to practice it? Uphold the vows of individual liberation well, without breaking them. Abandon the ten non-virtues and adopt the ten virtues. Accumulate all the accumulations of merit. Dedicate all the roots of virtue to unsurpassed enlightenment. Aspire to practice the Mahayana Dharma. Generate loving-kindness, compassion, and the mind of enlightenment. Finally, for the benefit of sentient beings, See gold and dung as the same, see enemies and friends as the same. Abandon attachment to this samsara.
