So! Because karmic imprints have been familiar for a long time, practicing without knowing that whatever appears is like an illusion means that the karma of karmic imprints welcomes you first, the karma of karmic imprints follows you, and the karma of karmic imprints goes immediately. Likewise, because karmic imprints flow in the three times, taking everything that appears as the nature of dreams and illusions means that clinging to appearances as real will vanish like mist. Because the five poisons are inherent, you need to practice until you have transformed afflictions into the path. Because hatred is inherent, and unborn is also inherent, as soon as hatred arises, even the unborn is made to arise, and through familiarity, hatred does not arise. Knowing dreams as illusions is transforming them into the path. Likewise, you should know all five afflictions. Knowing without being tainted by the five poisons is transforming them into the path. Because the five poisons are long-lasting, you must persevere until samsara is emptied. Because samsara, as the general category of the three realms, has no beginning, in terms of essential instructions, samsara can be made to have a beginning. Whenever you attain Buddhahood, that is when the beginning and end appear. Likewise, for the sake of all sentient beings in the three realms, I must practice and meditate until I have gained independent ground. If good or bad arises in the meantime, you will be distracted by the bad, so there is a danger of being led astray. For example, a great elephant has emerged, but its tail has not. Because you have to turn back for the sake of the tail, you must meditate until you have severed the ties of samsara. There is no dharma superior to this. Om! Whatever you obtain, you must give away. If you were to request a single dharma in all ways, you must practice a single excellent dharma: this life is impermanent and without leisure, so whatever you obtain, you must give away. Giving should be learned from fire and water, knowing that fire and water have no thought for themselves, you will be born as a miserly preta. By becoming familiar with small things, you will eventually give away large things like your head, hands, and feet without difficulty, even giving away your eyes. Acting in this way is separating from samsara. So first learn to give to fire and water, then learn to give small things, and then you must give away what you need and are attached to. Practicing in this way, according to the way of the pāramitās, in summary, there are only two words for samsara and nirvana: the scriptures say, 'As you grasp, so is the cause of all afflictions; not fixating on self and what belongs to self is said to be purification.' Know that as long as grasping exists, all afflictions exist. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Attachment arises from clinging to what is liked, hatred arises from clinging to what is disliked. Attachment arises from clinging to a son, hatred arises from clinging to an enemy, attachment arises from clinging to pleasant sounds, hatred arises from clinging to unpleasant sounds. Similarly, attachment arises from clinging to praise, and so on. Because of the appearance of duality, clinging to knowledge as various things, one cannot be liberated from samsara and ultimately goes to a place of suffering. Therefore, to turn away from these attachments, it is said that one should not fixate on 'I' and 'mine'. Similarly, when practicing, one should observe whether 'I' is real or unreal, whether 'I' is permanent or impermanent, whether 'I' possesses inherent existence. By observing in this way, when one sees that 'I' is impermanent, one is separated from attachment to 'I'. If there is no clinging to 'I', then one is separated from all clinging. From the past until now, because of clinging to 'I', 'mine' has arisen. Because 'I' and 'mine' have arisen, one wanders in samsara. Because of 'my' son, enemy, wealth, and so on, many 'mine' have arisen. This is why one wanders in samsara. One should know that 'I' is like a dream and an illusion. One should know that 'I' is impermanent. By knowing in this way, one does not fixate on 'I'. Because one does not fixate on 'I', all 'mine' are not fixated upon. Therefore, it is said that not fixating on 'I' and 'mine' is purification. As stated in the 'Luminous Wisdom'. Therefore, all clinging to 'I' must be abandoned, and samsara must be regarded as worthless. One must practice not fixating on clinging to 'I'. Purification is the Dharma of Nirvana, which transcends suffering. Therefore, one must learn to give up one's body from fire and water, abandon all clinging, abandon all attachment, recognize and abandon all faults, observe where all shortcomings lie, and remove them. Because one does not know what will happen in the future, sickness, depression, and death come suddenly like lightning, and regret is the result of bad karma, so one must strive and practice now. There is no other Dharma than this. Namo! One must seize this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for practice. If I could offer you a Dharma in various ways, it would be to contemplate a little now, as the time of death is unpredictable. Once caught in the noose of the Lord of Death, there is no freedom. Now, while we have freedom, we must seize this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for practice. First, we must place our hope in the Guru, Yidam, and Three Jewels. Pray earnestly with faith, longing, devotion, and respect. If one practices Dharma for the sake of worldly gain, fame, food, comfort, and so on, it is of no benefit, so one must cast them aside. Offer the entire body and possessions to the Guru and Three Jewels, and it is necessary to integrate practice into life, in order to attain perfect Buddhahood for all sentient beings. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
