It is crucial to meditate without distraction for even a moment for your own benefit. If all appearances are grasped as true, even though all appearances are the Dharmakaya (chos kyi sku), one will not transcend the three realms of samsara. Even towards bad people, do not have biased compassion. Because biased love is even present in crows and wolves, it is useless. Merely saying that one has compassion for one's own children is not the essence of compassion; it is attachment. Attachment and compassion are easily confused, so wise people should contemplate this well. Non-existence and non-attachment are also easily confused. Therefore, do not have biased compassion; cultivate unbiased compassion for all sentient beings and make it the core of your practice, not just practicing to fulfill your own desires. When practicing, according to the instructions of Dzogchen (rdzogs chen), condense the essence of the scriptures into two points to practice: regard all phenomena of existence as one's own mind, and ascertain its meaning. That is, all phenomena of existence are one's own awareness (rang rig). Happiness is also the mind being happy, and unhappiness is also the mind being unhappy. It is also said in the scriptures: 'High and low, the outer world and inner essence, are all one's own mind.' Therefore, ascertain that all phenomena of samsara and nirvana are one's own mind, and then practice. Do not think that it can be completed in about a year. When practicing, ascertain that the nature of the mind is unborn. For all phenomena of samsara and nirvana, there is nothing real or independently existing, because its nature is emptiness. Therefore, ascertain that the nature of the mind is unborn. There is not even attachment to dreamlike illusions. Awareness arises without bias, so ascertain that the play (rol pa) of the mind never ceases. The essence of the mind is unborn and unceasing, and the two are inseparable, like the ocean and the waves, so ascertain that the characteristic of the mind is non-duality. Merely being non-dual should not become an object of thought, because it cannot be measured by logical thinking, so wisdom (blo) is liberated in its own nature. Then, someone might ask, what is the use of these four ascertainments (unborn, unceasing, non-dual, self-liberation)? This is to prevent appearances from falling into substantiality, so it is pointed out that its nature is unborn; to prevent falling into nihilism, it is pointed out that its play is unceasing; to prevent falling into duality, it is pointed out that its characteristic is non-duality; to prevent thinking that there is a 'non-duality' and developing an intellectual view, it is pointed out that its essence is self-liberation. Therefore, these four ascertainments are to prevent falling into the four extremes, until the end of time. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Completely integrate the desires of the mind into practice; there is no other way. If I am allowed to request one Dharma in all ways, then in practicing a supreme Dharma, first abandon all thoughts of this life. Those who wish to liberate themselves and all sentient beings from the ocean of samsara, first cultivate impermanence, thereby turning the mind away from this life. Then, by cultivating the faults of samsara, turn the mind away from all things of samsara. Next, cultivate loving-kindness, compassion, and bodhicitta. If you start practicing without maturing your own mind, people will feel ashamed, and no realization will arise. Therefore, strive to control your own mind. It is very important to keep all advice in your heart. If you can control your own mind, inner signs will manifest outwardly. Just like that, integrate everything into one, and by integrating appearance, awareness, and existence into practice, all realizations and fruits will be achieved; there is no other way. It is very important to cultivate loving-kindness, compassion, and bodhicitta. If I am allowed to request one Dharma in all ways, then in practicing a supreme Dharma, starting from turning the mind away from this world, it is very important to cultivate loving-kindness, compassion, and bodhicitta. That is to say, to liberate all sentient beings from suffering, to attain happiness, and ultimately to attain the perfect enlightenment of Buddhahood. Always remember this, and from the depths of your heart, without any selfish desires, strive for the benefit of all sentient beings. Do not abandon sentient beings in your mind. If you abandon sentient beings in your mind, you will be separated from the Mahayana Dharma and the spiritual friend, which is a very serious fault. Do not let selfish desires become enemies. Even for Tantric practitioners, all sentient beings are the nature of deities and goddesses. How can you generate afflictions towards deities? Even for practitioners of Mahamudra or Dzogchen, the appearance of one's own mind is the light of the Dharmakaya, or the play of adornment and greatness. How can you generate afflictions towards the light or adornment of your own mind's Dharmakaya? Not for the benefit of oneself alone, but in order to purify the obscurations of body, speech, and mind of all sentient beings, for the benefit of sentient beings, all virtuous actions of body, speech, and mind must be dedicated to all beings. In practice, integrate everything into one. Because habits have existed for a long time, you must strive to practice until you realize that all appearances are illusions. Because the five poisons are innate, you must strive to practice until you transform afflictions into the path. Because time is long, you must continue to practice until samsara is emptied. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
