Relying on the captain of the boat of the nonexistent dharma, the lama, to steer the course, one must transcend this precious human body of leisure and opportunity. If one does not strive, one will fall into the abyss of samsaric suffering and never have a time of liberation. Therefore, having generated the mind of liberation, just as one first prays to the boatman when one wants to cross a river, those who enter the boat of dharma and want to cross the ocean of existence must first rely on the lama, the boat-holding helmsman, and strive to please him. Moreover, one must rely on a lama who possesses the qualities. Even to cross a river, one must rely on a good boat and a skilled and strong boatman. Similarly, to be liberated from the endless river of samsara, relying on a lama who is proficient in profound dharma, possesses realization and qualities, is the most precious instruction for those who desire the island of liberation. Moreover, the qualities of a true lama are many, but here they can be summarized: In this degenerate age, a lama who possesses all the qualities is like a udumbara flower, difficult to find, so one must rely on those who possess at least most of the qualities and transmit the instructions without error. The *Garland of Birth Stories* says: When the Bhagavan accumulated merit for three countless eons, he went to all the realms of the world, his feet worn down to his knees, in order to seek a spiritual friend who would teach the six vajra syllables (Tibetan: གསུང་རྡོ་རྗེའི་འབྲུ་དྲུག་, Sanskrit Devanagari: वज्रषडक्षर, Sanskrit Romanization: vajra ṣaḍakṣara, literal meaning: vajra six syllables). In the *Wise and Foolish*, one should remember that the king, for the sake of the dharma, offered a thousand lamps on his own body, and endured countless hardships to find a spiritual friend, and think, "Why am I not searching?" Thinking in this way, one should search for a true lama. If one relies on the lama by regarding him as a Buddha, he is like a wish-fulfilling jewel, the source of all needs and desires. Like the king of medicine, he can eradicate the chronic disease of samsara. Like parents, he can bestow vast benefits. Like a hero, he can subdue sins. Like a boatman, he can save one from the ocean of existence. Like a great helmsman, he can show the path of liberation. And so on, the scriptures speak of immeasurable qualities of the lama. The scripture says: The lama is the Buddha, the lama is the Dharma, likewise, the lama is the Sangha, the lama is all the Buddhas.

Equality. Do not abandon the Lama, practice the Lama. With the distinction of faith and thought, the Lama will be accomplished without doubt. The Lama and Vajradhara, should not be regarded as different. The nectar arising from that, the yogi will experience. The culmination of all accomplishments, arises from pleasing the Lama. As it is said in the Gongpa Düpa: Without relying on the Lamas, Buddhas will never appear. No one has ever seen such an occurrence, and if it were to occur, it would contradict the scriptures. Meditating on a hundred thousand deity forms, is superior to meditating on the single Lama. As the master Shakya Ö said: Rely on a spiritual friend who is peaceful, disciplined, and extremely serene, possessing supreme qualities, diligent, rich in scriptures, highly skilled in speaking the most difficult to understand truth, possessing loving-kindness, and abandoning weariness. Thinking of the kindness that surpasses the Buddha, perform service, offerings, respect, and prostrations, and practice the Lama Yoga. Furthermore, as it is said in the Great Array: The kind Lama who arises, in the center of the heart or the palm of the hand, or on the crown of the head, whoever meditates on him, will hold all qualities. Thus. Second, practicing the Lama Yoga. With an ordinary self, one cannot practice the Lama Yoga, therefore, purify the impure, and say this: In the state of being free from grasping at reality, the nature of emptiness, visualize oneself as the Yidam deity, on the crown of the head, on top of a lotus stem with a thousand petals, in the center of the sun and moon cushion, Lama Padmasambhava, residing in the essence of the three Kayas of Kuntuzangpo. The Buddhas' mind transmission, the Vidyadhara's symbolic transmission, stacked on top of each other. The personal oral transmission, treasure teachings, aspiration prayer transmission, the Dakini entrusted transmission, and so on, as well as the Chinese and Tibetan Vidyadhara accomplished ones, the root three, like a marketplace, densely packed like clouds, blazing with glory and light, marked with the three places Om (藏文:ཨོཾ,梵文天城体:ओम्,梵文罗马拟音:oṃ,汉语字面意思:嗡), Ah (藏文:ཨཱ,梵文天城体:आ,梵文罗马拟音:ā,汉语字面意思:阿), Hum (藏文:ཧཱུྃ,梵文天城体:हुं,梵文罗马拟音:hūṃ,汉语字面意思:吽), radiating light, the Ugyen three Kayas Kagyu, and all hopes, without exception, are invited and merged into non-duality. Pray with intense longing and single-pointedness. Thus, in the state of emptiness, visualize oneself as the wrathful Hayagriva, body color red, one face, two arms, right hand holding a chopper, left hand holding a skull cup of blood. Standing on two legs in
