If death comes, there is no place, enjoyment, relatives, heroism, army, etc., that will not be abandoned, so practice the excellent Dharma! It is said that at the time of death, the place of reliance cannot protect you, and even the heavenly palace must be left behind. Hiding in the strong ground cannot escape death either. In the Vinaya it says: Where is there a place to dwell where death cannot invade? There is no such place anywhere. It is not in the sky, nor in the ocean, nor in the heavenly realm, nor in the mountain cave. It is said. Accumulated wealth cannot protect you either. Heavenly treasures, the kingdom of a Chakravartin, the treasury of a rich man, all must be left behind. It says there: When a tree falls, what use are the branches and leaves? Likewise, when a person dies, what use is it to hold on? It is said. Related relatives cannot protect you either. Even if you have a friend who is a Chakravartin, even if your wife is surrounded by five hundred heavenly maidens, even if your children and grandchildren play with a thousand heavenly sons, even if your grandson is the lord of the heavens, even if the government is an Asura army, even if the subjects are the heavenly realms of the four continents, even if the wealth is the seven treasures, even if your parents are Brahma and Indra, even if your friends are the Four Great Kings, even if your servants are thousands of heavenly servants, they cannot hold onto your life, or give help, or prolong your life, or stop death, or be a friend. Like pulling a hair from butter, on the dangerous path of the bardo, no one can accompany you, you must go alone. In the Sutra Requested by the Jewel Daughter it says: When the time of death comes, neither parents, nor relatives, nor sons can be a refuge, neither youth nor strength. It is said. In the Extensive Play Sutra it says: When you die and migrate from here to another place, you will be separated from the beloved and suffering people, and after death you will not return, nor will you meet again, like leaves falling from a tree, like a flowing stream. It is said. In the Sutra Requested by the King Dhritarashtra it says: Here, forever and quickly separated from all sins, there is nothing that is not separated. It is said. In the Manjushri Transformation Sutra it says: Parents are not your refuge, nor are friends and relatives, they will also abandon you, you yourself will go alone to the next life.

Ro. Thus it is said. One cannot overcome with the prowess of deeds, and at the time of death, it is of no use whatsoever, one must go. One cannot overcome with the counsel of the chief, so there is no answering with words and jokes. One cannot overcome with the skill of a hero, so there is no place to fight. One cannot overcome with swift running, so there is no place to escape. One cannot overcome with a beautiful appearance, so there is no place to deceive. One cannot overcome with violent actions, so there is no place to begin. One cannot overcome with evil deceit, so there is no place to evade, one must go alone. From the Vinaya Sutra: This one, with great power, dwells on high, Even the long-lived gods who dwell there, Because life is exhausted and decays, Who today can escape from death? Even bravery cannot protect, Kings who strive for discipline and practice austerities, Deeds and diligence, bravery and courage, A vast assembly of attendants, with wisdom, How can they not escape from death? Thus it is said. One cannot overcome with the support of powerful forces, Brahma, the Great King, Ishvara, Vishnu, sages, and the son of Sredmeda, etc., even those with great power have not transcended death. Yakshas, Rakshasas, demons, Nagas, etc., cannot escape death with their power. One cannot escape with the methods of doctors, learning, divination, etc. One cannot overcome with the power of secret mantras, knowledge mantras, miraculous powers, and clairvoyance, etc. Male gods, Dharma protectors, Dakinis, etc., cannot protect. The power of elixirs and medicines is of no use, one must die. From that very text: Those with great power, wealth, and blazing fame, Brahma, Indra, Vishnu, The maker of darkness, the noisy blue lion, Even they cannot avert death. From the one who brings about the end, medicines, All knowledge mantras and armies, Gods and protectors, interdependence, Wealth and relatives cannot protect. Thus it is said. One cannot overcome with food, clothing, and possessions. The nectar of the gods, sweet dew. The best clothes of Pancalika. The best food of humans, a hundred flavors. Various silks and the best cloths, etc. In short, one cannot overcome with beautiful forms, pleasant sounds, fragrant smells, delicious tastes, soft touches, etc., for it is the time of life's end. From the Extensive Play: Always beautiful forms, the best sounds, fragrant smells, the best tastes, pleasant touches, These beings fall into the net of evil times.
