Thus it is. The Buddha came, the Dharma was spoken, and the teachings remained. To abide by this, and the love of others, The five other endowments, a total of eighteen leisures and endowments. When one is perfectly endowed with these conditions, From the heart, strive to attain liberation. Furthermore, In the Great Commentary on the Eight Thousand Verses, it says: Hell, hungry ghosts, animals, And barbarians, long-lived gods, And wrong views, emptiness of Buddhas, Mutes, these are the eight unfree states. Thus, if one is born in the three lower realms, suffering is intense, and the physical basis is extremely bad, so there is no leisure for Dharma. The gods of the desire realm are distracted by attachment to desirable objects and have little renunciation. Most of the gods of the form and formless realms are always intoxicated by samadhi, so there is no leisure for Dharma. Being born in a world system where no Buddha has appeared, or even if a Buddha has appeared, being born in a remote area where the Dharma does not flourish, or even if one is born in a place where the Dharma flourishes, holding wrong views that deny past and future lives, karma and its effects, and the Three Jewels, and becoming deaf and mute, not understanding the essential points of what to adopt and abandon, and being born without the thought of adopting and abandoning, these are the eight unfree states. Among these, the three lower realms and the long-lived gods are the non-human unfree states, and the other four are the human unfree states. If we separately analyze the reasons for the unfree states of body, speech, and mind, being born in the three realms of hell, hungry ghosts, and animals, one is distracted by suffering, so the body has no leisure, and the mute has no ability to communicate the meaning of words, so speech has no leisure, and there is no awareness of practicing Dharma, so it is the long-lived gods, and although there is awareness, it is empty of Buddhas, and there is no light of the teachings, so one is born in a dark age, and although there is light, there is no wisdom to enter into it, so it is the barbarians, and although one wants to enter, the four who have fallen into the extremes of exaggeration and denigration are the minds without leisure, and they have no place or opportunity to practice Dharma, because they are busy with their own karma. In the Compendium it says: Abandoning the eight unfree states, one always obtains that leisure. Thus it is said that not being born in the eight unfree states is the eight perfect leisures. Among the ten endowments, the five personal endowments are: Human birth, born in the central land, complete faculties, not

Lada! That is to say, in this regard, I have generally obtained a human body. It is necessary to be born in a place where Buddhism flourishes in Utsang (དབུས་, referring to Lhasa and its surrounding areas, ཆོས་དར་བའི་སར་སྐྱེས, referring to a place where Buddhism flourishes). With the five senses complete, one is able to distinguish between what to accept and what to reject. Not having committed or instructed others to commit the five heinous crimes. Having faith and aspiration for the origin of all white dharmas of the mundane and supramundane, such as the Vinaya Pitaka and other words of the Buddha. These five are included in one's own continuum and are conditions for practicing Dharma, so they are called self-endowments. That is, having turned away from the eight unfree states, so leisure and the five self-endowments are one key point. The five other-endowments are: The Buddha came and taught the Dharma, The teachings remain and there are followers, Cherishing others with love. That is to say, the Buddha came into the world. He spoke the sacred Dharma. His teachings have not declined but remain. There are also many others who follow the teachings. There are also many others who provide food, clothing, and other assistance to those who practice Dharma with loving hearts. Another explanation is that other's love refers to the spiritual friend guiding the Dharma with love. These five are included in the continuum of others and are conditions for practicing Dharma, so they are called other-endowments. That is, as stated in the Sutra: The so-called endowment refers to understanding the nature of the mind, which is the endowment in the sense of correct wisdom. That is to say, leisure is the essence, and endowment is its distinguishing characteristic. Thus, it is difficult to obtain this body with eighteen endowments, so now one should focus one's mind on the Dharma, as stated in the "Guide to the Bodhisattva's Way of Life": Having obtained such a leisure body, If I do not cultivate virtuous deeds, There is no greater deception than this, There is no greater delusion than this. Just so. The analogy for the difficulty of obtaining this is: In the ocean, there lives a turtle that comes to the surface once every hundred years. There is a yoke with a single hole that is blown by the wind and moves without stopping for a moment. It is possible for the turtle's neck to enter that hole. However, obtaining a human body from samsara and the lower realms is even more difficult than that, as stated in the "Letter to a Friend": In the ocean, a yoke with a hole, And a turtle meeting is also possible, But obtaining a human body from animals, Is especially difficult, O king, Protect the right
