The master teaches, contemplating that the light of the Dharma emanates from the master's mouth and permeates into the ears of the disciples. Both the speaker and the listener should focus on the words and meanings of the Dharma, without distraction, and listen with one-pointed attention. Among them, the speaker's words contain the six perfections: speaking well is generosity, subduing afflictions with discipline, having no difficulty in speaking is patience, striving to speak is diligence, being without distraction is meditation, and clearly explaining the meaning of words is wisdom. The listener, the disciple, should also possess the six perfections: offering cushions and mandalas is generosity, restraining behavior in the place is discipline, not harming all beings is patience, requesting the Dharma is diligence, receiving the teachings without distraction is meditation, and asking questions to eliminate doubts and criticisms is wisdom, which is the nature of possessing the six perfections or six branches. Next, the benefits of teaching and listening to the Dharma are explained: thus, teaching the true Dharma will obtain the benefit of the Dharma teaching, which is the most supreme among all generosity, holding the treasury of the Dharma in all lifetimes, and being remembered by the Tathagata and his retinue, constantly remembering past lives, hearing the teachings of the Buddha, quickly attaining Buddhahood, and so on. The listener can purify the obstacles of the mind, cut the bonds of doubt, constantly not be separated from the true Dharma, obtain the Dharani of the Dharma, not fall into evil realms, be protected by the gods, have fewer diseases and harms, quickly attain Buddhahood, and so on, obtain the eye of wisdom, and thus transcend samsara. As the Uttaratantra says: "Wisdom is the most supreme, its basis is listening, therefore listening is the most supreme." The Compendium also says: "Having fully understood the nature of the Dharma with wisdom, one will quickly be liberated from the three realms." Therefore, the source of the Dharma is only teaching and listening, so one should strive to teach and listen to the Dharma.

These two are mainly wisdom, and its precursor is faith. As it is said in the Ratnakuta Sutra: For those who have no faith, white dharmas will not arise, just as a seed burned by fire will not produce a blue sprout. As it is said in the Uttaratantra: The ultimate truth of self-origination is to be realized only through faith. Thus, the nature of faith is extensively explained. First, the nature of faith is: the extremely pure wisdom that focuses on the objects to be abandoned and adopted, by entering and withdrawing. If we divide it separately from different aspects, as it is said in the Wish-Fulfilling Jewel Treasury: The faith of desire takes and abandons cause and effect, the faith of admiration makes the mind extremely inclined towards the supreme object, the faith of reverence is endowed with supreme mindfulness, the faith of purity makes the mind of merit extremely pure, the faith of trust eliminates doubts about the Dharma, the faith of definite mind has more faith in the supreme Dharmas of hearing, thinking, and meditating. As it is said, there are six kinds of faith: desire, admiration, reverence, purity, trust, and definite mind. These are only differences of classification and aggregation. Among them, the three faiths of admiration, reverence, and purity belong to the faith of purity, and the two faiths of desire and trust belong to the faith of trust. The faith of definite mind is desire itself. Because one has entered the true nature of the path without error, wanting to abandon the two, suffering and origin, and thus desiring liberation. Among them, first, the faith of desire is: wanting to regard samsara and nirvana as what should be abandoned and adopted, therefore having the desire to rejoice in white dharmas, wanting to abandon the suffering of samsara, and wanting to attain liberation and enlightenment, and wanting to enter the cause of these two by taking and abandoning. For example, just as someone who desires wealth wants to obtain wealth, wanting to seek the Dharma, abandoning suffering and origin, and thus entering the path and cessation. The sign of abiding in this meaning is: not liking worldly affairs and only keeping hearing and thinking in mind. As it is said in the Jewel Lamp Sutra: Faith is generated like a preceding mother, protecting and increasing all merits, eliminating doubts, liberating from rivers, and faith is a symbol of a city of happiness and auspiciousness.
