It is understood through the wisdom of thought in the manner of experiencing maturity. Merely knowing and understanding does not attain liberation, just as one cannot be full if one has food but does not eat it. Therefore, having abandoned the nine activities and becoming accustomed to them, through the power of the wisdom of meditation, stability is attained in oneself, just as darkness does not appear when dawn breaks. In the environment of awareness, at a time when it is uninterrupted, awareness gains self-confidence in itself. However, one does not become a Buddha merely by that, because the appearance of phenomena is exhausted into the nature of reality, and the appearance and mind of samsara have not even a trace of defilement. Having become vast and boundless in the state of the Dharmadhatu's complete perfection, one has arrived at the ground of liberation. That appearance also clears away the subtle obscurations of knowledge into non-existence. Having mastered the great wisdom of suchness and as-it-is-ness, the Dharmakaya is like the sky, and the qualities of the spontaneous play of the three Kayas are fully developed, therefore one is a Buddha. Secondly, there are four key instructions for distinguishing the essential points without error: distinguishing between mind and awareness, distinguishing between mind and wisdom, distinguishing between consciousness and wisdom, and distinguishing between the Alaya and the Dharmakaya. First, distinguishing between mind and awareness: that which arises from the fundamental ignorance, the nature of arising and ceasing of discursive thought, is mind; that which arises from the fundamental manifestation, the nature of great primordial spontaneity, is awareness. In the latter, knowing the fundamental state or the way things are is fundamental awareness, and the knowledge that manifests the nature of reality, clear, lucid, and free from turbidity, is path awareness. The simultaneous presence of both is pervasive awareness, the Great Perfection, and is divided into three. Second, distinguishing between mind and wisdom: the knowledge that manifests all the appearances of the magical display of discrimination is mind, and the unobstructed appearance of the six objects is called the mind's consciousness. Wisdom has three aspects: knowing the state of the great emptiness of samsara and nirvana as it is is the wisdom of the base; recognizing that knowledge is like an open copper pot without obstruction is the wisdom of the path; and the simultaneous presence of both is pervasive wisdom. Third, distinguishing between consciousness and wisdom: the appearance of desirable qualities.

For the focused field of appearance, the uninterrupted is consciousness; for the movement of conceptualization that grasps appearances as real, it is also called karma wind. The subtle and coarse consciousnesses gather simultaneously, and from this, samsara is completely established. The wisdom that knows the nature of dharmata sugatagarbha as it is, the wisdom that knows as it is; when the reality of dharmata suchness manifests, for the unobstructed all-knowing and all-seeing, it is the wisdom that sees as many as there are. The merging of these two is the wisdom of primordial purity, equality. Fourth, regarding the distinction between alaya and dharmakaya, the key points are distinguishing between the real and the ultimate, and the two relative. Summary. First, the actual distinction: the ground-essence that has become unspecified due to the power of ignorance is the alaya. For example, just as various dreams appear in the state of sleep, from that state various karma winds stir, becoming the basis and root of all samsara, so it is said. All phenomena of dharmas, in the state of dharmata free from elaboration, are vast and boundless in the state of clear awakening, it is the dharmakaya. Second, the key is to summarize into the two ultimate and relative: Thus, when the dharmakaya of the ground is completely clear and manifest, the essence is the dharmakaya of samsara and nirvana equality, the radiance is the sambhogakaya of self-nature wisdom qualities, the power is the nirmanakaya of self-luminous, unobscured. Its play or nature is the ultimate. When the reality and nature of the ground, primordial purity, are ignorant, the essence is the alaya, the radiance is the impure appearance, the power is mind and mental factors, its play is called relative. Third, the ultimate reason is the way samsara and nirvana are bound by the great dharmata: just as all the images that appear in water, such as the moon in water, are all plays of water and do not go beyond water, all containers and contents are plays of space and do not go beyond space itself; all samsara and nirvana are plays of one mind and do not go beyond mind. Just as all images are bound by water itself, and all stability and movement are bound by space, all samsara and nirvana are bound by the great dharmata. Therefore, entering such a close and profound instruction, through realizing the reality of the meaning as it is, there is no difficulty in manifesting the result.
