Explanation of Mistakes in Using the Path: In order to understand the distinction between realization and non-realization, it is necessary to recognize wisdom, as well as to identify mind and mental events. First, regarding how the four kayas and five wisdoms are spontaneously perfect in the ground: The primordial protector, Samantabhadra himself, is the nature of the five wisdoms. From the aspect of the emptiness of essence, it is the Dharmakaya (chos sku); from the aspect of the clarity of nature, it is the Sambhogakaya (longs sku); from the aspect of the spontaneous compassion, it is the Nirmanakaya (sprul sku); from the aspect of pervading and filling all of samsara and nirvana, it is the Svabhavikakaya, the four kayas. From the aspect of opening the door to all dharmas, it is the Dharmadhatu wisdom (chos dbyings); from the aspect of being clear and free from obscurations, it is the Mirror-like wisdom (me long); from the aspect of playing equally in samsara and nirvana, it is the Equality wisdom (mnyam nyid); from the aspect of the unobstructed door of knowing and seeing wisdom, it is the Discriminating wisdom (sor rtog); from the aspect of accomplishing the activity of purification and liberation, it is the All-Accomplishing wisdom (bya grub), thus establishing the nature of the five wisdoms. Second, regarding how the four kayas and five wisdoms naturally arise on the path: Thus, the path of awareness that is liberated as the self-born Buddha also manifests as the nature of the four kayas and five wisdoms. The essence of awareness is vast and pervasive, like the environment of space, omnipresent, transparently vast, the play of rootless and baseless, the nature of pervading all of samsara and nirvana. From the aspect of being free from all elaborations, it is the Dharmakaya (chos sku); from the aspect of self-existing clarity, it is the Sambhogakaya (longs sku); from the aspect of the unobstructed clarity of wisdom, it is the Nirmanakaya (sprul sku); from the aspect of becoming like the common ground of samsara and nirvana, it is the Svabhavikakaya, the four kayas. And, from the aspect of establishing the ground and realizing it as one taste in the realm of the dharmata of samsara and nirvana, it is the Dharmadhatu wisdom (chos dbyings ye shes); from the aspect that emptiness does not fall into nihilistic emptiness, but is clear, free from obscurations, able to manifest anything, like a mirror free from tarnish, it is the Mirror-like wisdom (me long ye shes); from the aspect of knowing the state of the great emptiness of samsara and nirvana existing purely and equally, it is the Equality wisdom (mnyam nyid ye shes); from the aspect of the unobstructed clarity of each function of awareness, it is the Discriminating wisdom (sor rtog ye shes); from the aspect of spontaneously accomplishing the activity of both purification and liberation from the mastery of awareness, it is the All-Accomplishing wisdom (bya grub ye shes), which is the play of the five wisdoms. Third, regarding the explanation of the mistake of using non-fabrication as the path for those who have not realized suchness: Thus, there are many who do not truly know suchness as it is, and who distinguish between mind and awareness, and use non-fabrication as the path, but these have not been given the prophecy of external appearances.

Grasping at things that have characteristics. Inwardly, tightly clinging to the belief that one's own body is an unpredicted, permanent entity. Although stability is attained in the space-like, clear, and uninterrupted awareness between these two, it only becomes the virtue that propels one to the upper two realms. Therefore, it cannot become the cause for attaining liberation and the state of omniscience, so it is flawed. Fourth, in order to distinguish between realization and non-realization, it is necessary to recognize wisdom and mind and mental factors. Knowing that all phenomena of samsara and nirvana are of one taste and pure and equal in suchness is the wisdom of knowing reality as it is. Although the nature of awareness abides in itself, the spontaneously arising, uninterrupted wisdom of all-knowing and all-perceiving is the wisdom of knowing all that is. Although it is uninterrupted, it does not fall into the object, like a drop of mercury falling on the ground. Mind is seeing samsara and nirvana as independent, and grasping appearances as real, because it does not understand the reality of the ground and is ignorant. From this, arising and ceasing mental thoughts arise, mixed with the object, like a drop of water falling on dry land. Second, the way in which illusory appearances and the play of samsara suddenly expand has three aspects: the way in which the appearances of the outer five elements expand; the way in which the inner eight consciousnesses and object appearances expand together; and explaining its meaning, the way in which appearances are not shown by the mind, but are merely appearances from causes, conditions, and interdependence, which is a summary of the key points. First, the way in which the appearances of the outer five elements expand is: having autonomy on the ground, the pure ground of The Buddha's own face is obscured by ignorance, and all the bodies and wisdoms of the ground's essence of light dissolve into the inner light. The outer light transfers to the outside and expands in the form of the five lights as the five elements. When the wisdom of the Dharmadhatu is obscured by ignorance, the outer light appears as a blue light. This is the essence of the inner element and space, called the great element. Because of the arising of true grasping at the light, it appears as space, which is called the outer element and the small element or the impure appearance of the tiny seed. Similarly, when mirror-like wisdom dissolves into the inner light, the outer light appears as a white light, which is the essence of water and the inner element of the great element. From this, it appears as water.
