Those are just like talking about a rabbit's horn. Second, in order to establish the selflessness of phenomena, one must search for the basis of designation for names, dismantle the clinging to things, attack the weaknesses of benefit and harm, and collapse the false nests of hope and fear. First, if one searches for the meaning of designation for all names, they are merely designated upon the self-appearance of conceptualization, even though they do not exist. This is because no phenomenon can be established as truly existent upon a basis of designation. So, what is called "head," why and upon what is it designated? Is it because it is the first part of the body to form? Is it because it is round? Or is it designated upon what points upward? The head does not arise as the first part of the body to form, and not everything that is round is called a head. If one examines above and below, there is no above and below in the sky. Likewise, hair is not the head. Skin is not called head from skin. Bone is not called head from bone. Brain is not the head. Eyes and ears are not the head. Nose and tongue are not the head. Thus, if they are separated, they are not, but if one thinks they are called head when gathered together, then even if one cuts off the head of a living being, grinds it into dust and indivisible particles, and shows it to the people of Jambudvipa (Earth), they will not say it is a head. Even if mixed with water, it is not called a head, so one should know that what is called "head" is just a word, and in reality, there is no place to designate it. One should understand this state. Similarly, even with eyes, having two bubbles does not make it an eye. Skin is not the eye. Water and blood vessels are also not the eye. Even if these are separated, they are not. Even the particles gathered together are not. Even the mud mixed with water is not. The one who sees forms is consciousness, but not the bubble, as shown by the fact that there is a seer during dreams and the intermediate state. Ears are also the same; the tube is not the ear. Skin is not the ear. Flesh, blood vessels, blood, and pus all have their own names and are not called ear. Even the powder ground into dust is not the ear. Even the mud mixed together is not the ear. If one thinks that the one who hears sounds is called ear, then look at the one who hears sounds during dreams, daytime appearances, and the intermediate state. It is the knowledge of mind's inherent abiding, not the ear. Similarly, the nose is also not called nose from the tube, skin, bone, flesh, and blood vessels; they all have their own names. The one who smells is also consciousness.

In the context of dreams and the bardo, one should examine the questioner. The tongue is also like that. Similarly, if the tongue is separated, then for all the flesh, skin, blood, and veins, one cannot call them tongue by their respective names. Even if they are ground into powder, one cannot call it tongue. Just as clay mixed with water cannot be called tongue, the same applies to all the things below. Similarly, for the hand, the scapula is not the hand, the arm is not, the wrist is not, the finger joints are not, the flesh, skin, bones, and marrow are not. The scapula is also like that, the skin is not the scapula, the flesh and bones are not. The dust gathered together is also not, nor is the clay mixed with water. The basis for the name of the scapula is empty in a place where it cannot be found. Similarly, examining the arm and wrist, for flesh it is flesh, for bone it is bone, for skin it is skin, for marrow it is marrow, from their respective names, not even a tiny basis is established. Examining the foundation referred to as body and form, the vertebrae and ribs cannot be called body, the chest and flesh, skin, and bones cannot be called body, the heart, lungs, liver, gallbladder, spleen, kidneys, intestines, etc., are each called by their respective names, and the basis of body and form is empty in a place where it cannot be found, therefore it is emptiness. Similarly, examining the leg, the hip is not the leg, the thigh is not, the shin is not, the knee is not. Similarly, for the hip, it cannot be said to be flesh, nor can it be said to be skin, bones, veins, etc. For the thigh, it cannot be said to be skin, flesh, bones, veins, etc. The shin is also like that, if all these are ground into powder, those names are not established, nor can clay mixed with water be called by those names. If one seeks the basis of what is called an external mountain, then the earth is not the mountain. Similarly, grass and trees are not, stone is not, rock and water are not. If one seeks the basis of the name of a house, just as the earth is not the house, neither is the stone, nor is the wood. For the wall, it is only called a wall, and cannot be called a house, similarly, it cannot be established anywhere inside or outside. If one seeks the basis of the names of humans, horses, dogs, etc., the eyes and ears nose and tongue, and flesh, blood, bones, marrow, and veins, together with consciousness, from their respective names, the basis of humans, horses, dogs, etc., cannot be found anywhere, all of these point to emptiness. For example,
