There are seven instructions on non-regression. The first is the instruction on taking refuge as the foundation stone of all Dharmas: One must take refuge through the three doors of faith. Among them, the initial faith is: when seeing the holy objects such as statues, images of Buddha, scriptures, stupas, and the Sangha community gathered in a beautiful and pleasing manner, one thinks, "I take refuge." The faith of desire is the faith that arises to protect from the fears of this life and to fulfill wishes. The unwavering faith is: fearing the suffering of the three lower realms and samsara, one remembers the Three Jewels in one's heart and completely entrusts one's body, speech, and mind to the Three Jewels. The actual classification of taking refuge has three aspects: the way of taking refuge, the benefits of taking refuge, and the intention of taking refuge. First, the classification has three types: The first type is fearing the suffering of the lower realms and striving only to attain a good rebirth, which is the path of the lesser person, and the result is only the attainment of the state of gods and humans in the good realms. The second type is fearing the suffering of samsara and striving only for one's own happiness and comfort, which is the path of the intermediate person, and the result is only one's own liberation. The third type is taking refuge in order to liberate all limitless sentient beings from the ocean of suffering in samsara, which is the entrance to the path of the great person, the true path of immeasurable merit, and one should learn to follow this path. Second, the way to take refuge is: the common refuge is taking refuge in the Buddha,(藏文,梵文天城体,梵文罗马拟音,汉语字面意思)ཨོཾཿ ,oṃ,唵;the teacher; taking refuge in the Dharma, which is the entrance to the true path; and taking refuge in the Sangha, which is the companion on the path of practice. The uncommon inner refuge is offering one's own three doors of body, speech, and mind to the Lama, relying on the Yidam, and regarding the Dakinis and Dharma protectors as companions for refuge. The secret refuge is one's own natural state—Samantabhadra, the essence is the unborn Dharmakaya, the nature is the unceasing Sambhogakaya, and the compassion is the all-pervading Nirmanakaya. Taking the inseparability of these two as the path is the ultimate secret refuge in the true meaning of reality. Other than these, those who have not transcended samsara and rely on worldly things do not have the power to protect from fear, therefore they are not places of refuge. Therefore, one should not take refuge in any other object besides the Three Jewels in order to attain liberation.

which become obstacles to wisdom and omniscience. Then, generating the assembly field in front: all impure minds and appearances transform as if awakening from a dream, and these outer container worlds become a ground of light in the form of various jewels. Beautiful and pleasing, clear and even like the surface of a mirror, soft when pressed and expansive when lifted, fragrant mists billowing from the medicinal grass hills, covered entirely with blooming lotus flowers blazing with various colors. In the center of that is a lotus tree, its branches and leaves greatly expanded, vast and extensive, and upon the stamen in the center is a seat of stacked sun and moon. The essence is the root guru, but the form is Guru Padmasambhava, his body color white with a reddish hue, possessing a radiant glow, one face and two arms, with a peaceful, non-wrathful, smiling demeanor, his two feet seated in the posture of royal ease. His right hand holds a golden vajra pointing towards the earth, and in his left hand, in the meditative equipoise, he holds a kapala filled with the amrita of deathless wisdom, adorned with a wish-fulfilling tree. On his head, he wears a soft deer-skin hat with upturned vulture feathers, and his body is clad in a robe, a zen shawl, and the three religious garments. His consort, Vajravarahi, in a concealed manner, leans a three-pronged khatvanga against his side. In the center of a rainbow five-colored light tent, visualize the illusory body of the rainbow body. Meditate on (Tibetan: ཨོཾ,Sanskrit Devanagari: ओ,Sanskrit Romanization: oṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: 嗡) as being without inherent existence. Around that, the assembly of root and lineage gurus, without remainder or omission, are brilliantly arrayed, densely packed with light, encircling and abiding. On the right petal, on top of a lunar mandala, the essence of all buddhas combined, the Bhagavan Shakyamuni, his body color like a golden mountain being illuminated by the sun, his right hand in the earth-touching mudra and his left hand in the meditative mudra, seated in the vajra posture, adorned with marks and signs, wearing the three religious garments. Visualize that he is surrounded by a thousand buddhas of the fortunate aeon. On the petal in the back, are the scriptures of transmission and realization, the texts in the form of books, golden stupas shimmering with light. On the left petal, are the bodhisattvas.
