When smelling the foul odor of the fields, the heavenly friends, wife, and daughters, Knowing that he was about to die, they carried him a yojana away, scattered flowers, and said, "As soon as you pass away from here, may you obtain a human body, practice the Dharma, and may you be reborn here again." Having said this, they departed in different directions. When he himself knew that he was going to die, he suffered greatly, with intense pain. Moreover, at the time of death, seeing with divine eyes the evil realms into which he was about to fall, On top of the previous suffering, there was the suffering of being about to be overwhelmed by the latter. This suffering had to be experienced for seven days in the heavenly realm, and its intensity was comparable to that of hell. As for the two upper realms, although there is no such suffering, it is inevitable that one will fall into other realms due to the exhaustion of previously accumulated merit. Therefore, it is crucial to remember such suffering, think carefully, and strive to practice the profound methods of liberation from samsara. In general, in this day and age, food, wealth, clothing, and ornaments are all causes of samsara and the lower realms. During bodily actions, walking, and dwelling, tiny creatures are killed involuntarily. Enjoying riding animals, the three poisons of attachment, aversion, and ignorance in the mind, making vows with the mouth, praising oneself, and slandering others, etc., thinking carefully, there is definitely nothing but accumulating the causes of rebirth in the lower realms. Therefore, one must clearly recognize that the destination is the lower realms and what is experienced is suffering, thereby completely abandoning it and generating deep renunciation. In this day and age, no matter how much food and wealth one has, one still desires more and greater things, becoming increasingly greedy and insatiable. For these, one endures hardships and difficulties, even sacrificing one's life, running around everywhere. Some, thinking highly of their high positions, become earthly rulers and great teachers through lies and deception. At this time, the expenses for food and wealth become enormous, the feet of those in high positions become unstable, they do not recognize relatives and friends, and they cannot satisfy the minds of their subordinates. Even those who have helped them greatly are not given a good face, and they may even end up being undermined and stabbed in the back. Harsh words are spoken, and it is difficult to endure.

Therefore, there is no way to endure suffering without leaving. Even those who attain great status, if they are too strict, all subjects and retinues will harbor malice and regard them as life-taking executioners. And, if they are too gentle, the subjects and retinues will despise them and not obey their control. If there are many retinues, disputes and lawsuits will also increase accordingly, with uncertain outcomes. No matter how high the status of a great person, the burden of harsh words and suffering is equally heavy, and they cannot experience even a trace of happiness. Even great lamas, if they give too generously, will not be able to support themselves, and excessive consumption of offerings will lead to the growth of negative karma, becoming a great rock in the depths of endless samsara. Even if food and wealth flow like a river in this life, there is never a time to accumulate wealth, and desires cannot be fulfilled. Those who receive offerings will not think that they have been favored, but rather think that this is self-destruction, saying that it is a double destruction in this life and the next, and mocking them. If a lama is too strict, all the monastic retinues will abandon them, harm them, and develop wrong views. If they are too gentle, everyone will despise them and not respect their teachings. If they are stingy with offerings, they will be called misers, and everyone will condemn and abandon them. Even if there are many monks and disciples, there is no time to complete all the tasks, and failure cannot be avoided. If small lamas are arrogant because they think their status is high, and they have many affairs, they will never have peace because the work is endless, as if they have bought the inability to be idle with money. If small monks have little power but are arrogant about their status and the status of great people, and there are many things to do, they will inevitably lead to the decline of their careers. Therefore, they are always in a position of little power, in a humble position. If they can restrain themselves, then they will surely be happy in this life and the next. Those nobles and great lamas, when endless suffering and unavoidable heavy burdens descend, will instead envy those who do not have such a large retinue. Therefore, for those small lamas with moderate status and light burdens, and small monks without burdens, if they can abide by their duties and practice the Dharma, then there is nothing more happiness than this in this world.
