Becoming inseparable from one's own nature, a great experience arises where the vast luminosity of my own being pervades all of samsara and nirvana. From that time forward, relying on that sign, this is the instruction for collapsing the illusory fortress of appearances. To mention just a bit, it is about searching for the flaw in names and demolishing the clinging to permanence of things. Having known and realized samsara and nirvana as all-encompassing, the illusory fortress of self-liberation collapses in one's own being. Firstly, proclaiming the name "I" and tightly grasping the notion of "I am," examine and analyze from the crown of the head to the soles of the feet, and all the flesh, blood, bones, inside and out, so that the basis of imputation is empty of any location. Then, again search separately for all the specific names of the head, feet, hands, joints, and so forth, thereby exposing their flaws. Furthermore, examine all types of external objects that are established as names and terms. For example, the name "house" should be searched for from the inside and outside, above and below, earth, stone, wood, and so on, and it will naturally vanish. The earth also transforms into bricks and so on, and the names of the top and bottom of stones, the beginning and end of trees, and so forth, vanish from their own place. And the transformations through alterations, such as firewood, stove, pillars, beams, water into tea, fire into candles, wind into bellows, and so on, these changes and disappearances are because the basis of imputation is uncertain, and the flaws are naturally exposed. Secondly, if all things are truly established, and there exists a truly established, permanent, and definite thing on top of things, then it must possess seven characteristics. These seven characteristics are: indivisible, indestructible, true, solid, stable, unobstructed in all directions, and unconquerable by anything. Although they appear solid, heavy, viscous, existent, and permanent, if houses, land, stones, fire, and water are all demolished, beaten, killed, and destroyed, they immediately vanish like dreams and illusions. Therefore, one must be certain that they are emptiness without inherent existence, and one must deeply investigate. In general, all forms, colors, shapes, appearances, containers, and contents that are composed of the five elements are self-empty, like clouds and mists vanishing in the expanse of the sky. Even if one knows that these are primordially empty from their own nature, if one does not understand the objects and subjects of grasping and clinging, it is useless and small-minded, like a beggar seeing another's treasury. Thirdly, samsara and nirvana are not other than one's own mind.
