That which is merely imputed, its forms, colors, and other characteristics of phenomena are not established, and it does not fall into any extreme of existence, non-existence, permanence, or annihilation. One should realize it as the great Middle Way, free from all extremes. Second, the actual path is taught, which has two parts. First, the concise teaching: Again, mindfulness, etc. Mindfulness is to maintain awareness without forgetting while the mind is relaxed. When movements arise without dwelling in that state, they are introduced as conceptual thoughts, and one enters the path. Second, the detailed explanation: From then on, one mixes, etc. Mindfulness and conceptual thoughts mix together, and whatever arises is like the unraveling of a snake knot. Although it scatters in fragments towards external objects, it is self-liberating, with a single point. Arising and awareness occur simultaneously, and it appears that liberation occurs merely through awareness, which is arising and liberation. Like lightning flashing in the sky, liberation occurs in the very moment of arising in one's own space. From the nature of emptiness, arising awareness manifests as self-illumination, so there is no attachment to oneself, others, or the three realms. One abides in one's own state, and the non-conceptual mindfulness is stable in itself. Second, identifying the wisdom of the path: Mindfulness without elaboration, etc. Both the object of mindfulness and the act of mindfulness dissolve into non-elaboration, and that self-awareness that abides in the state of reality is the wisdom of the path. Second, establishing the characteristics of the ground, which has two parts. First, the concise teaching: Therefore, the way of abiding, etc. Establishing the way of abiding of the ground, thereby eliminating the faults of profound view and meditation. Second, the detailed explanation, which has two parts. First, destroying the self-grasping of the individual, the grasping at a self, by realizing selflessness: Hair and beard, etc. The "I" that is grasped as a self, such as hair, beard, flesh, bones, blood, pus, teeth, nails, internal organs, excrement, etc., in short, from the outer skin to the inner bone marrow, even if examined, cannot be found. Therefore, it initially exists in the space where it arises, and ultimately transcends the place where it goes. Therefore, one should know that the grasping at self has no object. Second, destroying the grasping at phenomena as a self by realizing selflessness, which has four parts. First, searching for the basis of imputation of names: Likewise, the head, etc. Likewise, for the object of grasping, beginning with the parts of the body such as the head, hands, and feet that are included in one's own continuum, and the external objects and houses, etc., that are not included in one's own continuum, and the objects of enjoyment, if one searches from their respective perspectives, the basis of imputation of names is not something permanent or real.

Since the establishment of a name is unattainable, the basis for the designation of a name is emptiness. Second, dismantling the clinging to permanence of things: your own homeland, etc., the five great elements that are clung to as real in the homeland, and phenomena such as gold arising from earth and salt arising from water, if they possess the characteristics of a vajra, that would be acceptable, but through the means of destruction and taming, from dust and fragments of dust until indivisible particles disappear. Therefore, all appearances of the container and its contents are merely appearances from the perspective of appearance, and nothing is established from the perspective of emptiness, which is shown by the ten similes of illusion, not considering the non-existent as existent. Furthermore, where do all the appearances of the container and its contents during the day, all the objective appearances, go during the dream state? During the dream state, where do all the beings of the container and its contents that appear during the day die and their corpses disappear? This appearance is considered to arise from causes and conditions, and after abandoning this body, from where do the causes and conditions for the body that goes to the next life arise? If the present body is threatened by disease and suffering, etc., why is the next body not threatened? Similarly, although what appears as the three times is not perceived from the time of the self-ground, primordial purity, and equality, what has not been experienced appears as experienced, and what will not occur appears as occurring. What has not been established appears as established, clinging to it as real, mistaking the past, future, and present times as non-existent becoming existent. In short, the object of clinging to permanence does not exist in any of them. Third, the collapse of the false cave of hope and fear: Therefore, objective appearances, etc., clinging to the Buddha as good as an object of hope is very mistaken. If the Buddha is clung to as having a beautiful form, great magical powers, many attendants, a good dwelling, and great happiness, then that is no more than a worldly god of the form realm. Ultimately, having been liberated from the eggshell of ignorance, the radiance of wisdom increases, being free from the extremes of elaboration, the nature of reality that transcends the object of grasping and the grasper is merely expressed by the name Buddha. If one clings to traveling from one buddha-field to another, it is like a child wandering in a wilderness temple. Therefore, one must open the eye of wisdom that distinguishes between the two truths and not misunderstand the Buddha as an independent entity. Similarly, the place of samsara, the object of fear, is also empty in its basic nature.
