Being dissatisfied with this, one turns to other seemingly profound, contaminated virtues, or when seeing the merits of meditating on emptiness, etc., one also tries to settle in the meaning of emptiness. But just like the saying, "Two needle points cannot sew, two minds cannot accomplish anything," because one is bound by the fault of not being able to gain certainty in the meaning of Dharma-nature. Therefore, it is necessary to determine good and evil, and the reason lies in this. Otherwise, if one merely allows the karma of the three poisons of affliction, attachment, hatred, and delusion to run its course, perhaps one can still accomplish some contaminated virtues, but what is there to be happy about? Because the meaning of Dharma-nature is incomparable to any virtue. When settling in this meaning, neither the mind-made, speculative virtues, nor the non-virtuous actions can do anything, and there is not the slightest difference between good and bad in terms of obscuring reality. As the Omniscient One said: The sun of the true meaning of self-born wisdom is obscured by the clouds of good and evil, black and white. From the lightning of striving for acceptance and rejection, the rain of illusory happiness and suffering falls, nourishing the seeds of samsara, and the six realms of beings thrive. Alas, poor sentient beings, how pitiful! For the ultimate, certain essence of meaning, just like being bound by golden locks and ropes, good and non-good are equally bound by the mind. When neither black nor white clouds exist, in the sky of Dharma-dhatu, the sun of true meaning rises. As it is said. Furthermore, regarding the methods of protective deities, etc., and determining beneficial deities, if one first examines the place of origin, the place of dwelling in the middle, and the final destination, there is nowhere to be found. If a deity appears in the realm of the senses, then it must be possible to point out which are the form, sound, smell, taste, and touch of the deity, but these are not truly existent. If one thinks that deities arise from the elements of the container and its contents, then taking the earth element as an example, if the earth is broken down into dust, and the dust is broken down into particles and indivisible particles, what appears is only "earth," and not that "deity" arises from within it. Similarly, it is only that each element is given its own name, and not "deity." If one thinks that they are different, if the deity is non-material, then how can a non-material deity benefit material beings? If the deity is material, then will this deity speak for you and help you?

There's no way to understand without being present. If understood at that time, the shape, color, etc., of that deity should be visible to the naked eye, truly graspable by hand, and manifest at the gate of the senses, but that is nonexistent. The local deity is an arrogant one. It resides on this mountain. If one thinks it provides benefit, how does it do so? If that mountain is a deity, when protecting, that mountain should emerge and protect you. Otherwise, there's no way it benefits. If it resides in a cave in the mountain, there must be a path. Otherwise, if one digs through the earth, one will surely reach it. If it's beneath that mountain, digging and looking will surely reveal it, but that is nonexistent. From the time of ancestors, if one makes offerings, performs incense rituals, and raises prayer flags, it will be a support and friend. If one doesn't make offerings, and thinks illness and unpleasantness will arise, a formless deity has no way to benefit a formed one. If the deity is formed, when performing incense rituals with good wood, silk, offerings, etc., there should be enjoyment, but that is nonexistent. The smoke of the incense vanishes into the sky. The burnt offerings turn to ash, remaining in place, except for being carried away by the wind, no one takes them. Likewise, all the various colored cloths planted as so-called prayer flags also decay each year, some rot from water, some scatter, eaten and vanished by rain, but there is no deity actually using them, which is plainly visible. Or, somewhere, there is a very terrifying cliff, and I went there, and because of digging and striking stones, caused unimaginable hail, lightning, and thunder, or think I would be killed. For example, last night in your dream, you encountered a very terrifying arrogant local deity, the mountain peak covered in snow, the mountain waist occupied by cliffs, the mountain base covered in forests, and then cut poisonous trees, chopped poisonous wood, cut poisonous grass with a sickle, dug poisonous earth with a hoe, filled poisonous water with containers, etc. If that is the cause, immediately a yak-tail-like cloud of smoke falls from the cliff edge and rises into the sky, and in an instant, unimaginable lightning and thunder occur, appearing unbearable. However, today during the day, hail falls.
