If one cuts a tongue into powder, and the powder into dust particles, and the dust particles are completely destroyed, even if shown to the people of the southern continent of Jambudvipa, they would only say it is powder, not a tongue. Similarly, if the powder is mixed with water to make mud, it would only be called mud, not a tongue. If it is thought that it is called a tongue because there is someone who tastes flavors, then take the tongues of many dead animals and place them in the place of the tongue of an animal that has lost its tongue. Although it should be able to taste flavors, it actually cannot. Then, is the tongue seen during the day and the tongue seen in a dream one or two? If it is one, then if you dreamed last night that your tongue was cut off, then your tongue should also be cut off during the day today, but it is not. If the tongue is cut off during the day today, then although you tasted various flavors in the dream last night, this tongue does not taste any flavor during the day today. Or if it is thought to be different, then there are three hundred and sixty days in a year, three hundred and sixty nights, a total of seven hundred and twenty days and nights. Then, there should be seven hundred and twenty tongues. If there are, then all the tongues from beginningless time until now must either be stacked on top of each other like stacked palm leaves, or stacked inside and outside like layers of bark. If there are, then they should be clearly visible to the eye, tangibly grasped by the hand, and manifest to the senses, but they are not. Then, if one thinks that if my tongue is cut off, I will not be able to taste flavors in the future, it is because you first think that it is my tongue that tastes flavors, in the middle you think that because my tongue is cut off, I cannot taste flavors, and ultimately it is just an illusion of not tasting flavors. Even if one closes their eyes and sleeps during the day today, there is someone who tastes flavors in dreams, but this tongue during the day today does not taste any flavor. Similarly, in the intermediate state and future lives, even if one abandons the current body and corpse and dies, the one who tastes flavors in the intermediate state and future lives is only one's own mind, it is the eternal consciousness tasting its own corpse. Therefore, the Blessed One said: The tongue of
