There must be exactly twenty. If they exist, then those ears from beginningless time until now must be either arranged one above the other like stacked tala tree leaves, or arranged inside and outside like stacked layers of bark from many trees. If they exist, there should be something that can be directly seen with the eyes, truly grasped with the hands, and manifested in the gateway of the senses, but that is not the case. Therefore, if I think that my ears have become deaf and I will not hear sounds in the future, it is just that you think that my ears were the first to hear sounds, and in the middle my ears became deaf and I cannot hear sounds, and ultimately only the appearance of not hearing sounds arises. Although there is someone who can hear the sounds of dreams when closing the eyes and sleeping during the day today, the ears of today's daytime have never heard a single sound. Similarly, in the intermediate state and future times, even if one abandons the current body and corpse and dies, the one who hears sounds in the intermediate state and future times is just one's own mind, hearing one's own sound with the innate awareness. Therefore, it is merely hearing, not truly existing. Therefore, the Blessed One said, "The consciousness of the ear is infinite." Similarly, the nose should also be done in the same way, etc. Similarly, if one thinks that there is a permanently established entity on the basis of the nose, then the nose is just called a tube for a tube, not a nose. The skin is just called skin, not a nose. The bone is just called bone, not a nose. The flesh is just called flesh, not a nose. The sinew is just called sinew, not a nose. For all of these, one only speaks their respective names, not calling them a nose. Thus, if one thinks that when they are separated, they are not called a nose, but when they are gathered together, they are called a nose, then if one cuts off the nose of an animal and grinds it into powder, grinds the powder into particles, breaks the particles into indivisible particles, and then shows them to the people of Jambudvipa (Southern Continent), they will only say it is powder, not a nose. If it is mixed with mud and water, it will only be called mud, not a nose. If one thinks that it is called a nose because it can smell, then if one takes the noses of many dead animals and places them on the nostril of a sentient being who has lost the sense of smell, it should be able to smell, but in reality it cannot feel it. Therefore, are the nose of the daytime and the nose of the dream the same?

There are two. If there is one, last night in a dream, I dreamed that your nose was broken. Today during the day, that nose should have been broken, but it is not there. If that nose was broken today during the day, even though I smelled all kinds of smells in my dream last night, this nose today during the day has never smelled a single smell. Or if you think it is different, there are three hundred and sixty days in a year, three hundred and sixty nights, and seven hundred and twenty days and nights. Then, there should also be seven hundred and twenty noses. If there are, then those noses from beginningless time until now, either stacked on top of each other like stacked betel palm leaves, or stacked inside and out like many layers of bark. If there are, they should be visible to the naked eye, actually graspable by hand, and manifest at the gate of the senses, but they are not there.
