The ground. Divided into three parts in the following text. First, establishing the foundation with the view of Trekchö (Cutting Through). Generally presenting the common preliminaries. Specifically explaining the uncommon preliminaries. First, establishing the foundation with the view of Trekchö is: "Practice this door, etc., ultimately attain stability." This indicates that those fortunate individuals who wish to practice this profound door of luminous Tögal (Leaping Over), should first, regarding all phenomena encompassed by appearance, existence, cyclic existence, and nirvana, establish that all phenomena are without self, and that the basis for imputation of "I" is on that which is without self. The basis for the appearance of things is on that which is without things. The basis for viewing things as inherently existent in cyclic existence and nirvana is on that which is without inherent existence. The self of the person, and the self of phenomena, which arises from it, are not inherently established from the beginning, and having determined that they are the nature of the great Madhyamaka emptiness, which is free from the three times of arising, ceasing, and abiding, cyclic existence and nirvana are equally united within the Dharmakaya, and the nature of reality is realized and fully understood as it is. All phenomena of appearance, existence, environment, inhabitants, cyclic existence, and nirvana do not go beyond the play of awareness, and having ascertained that it is the great expanse of awareness-emptiness, in two Without equality, mastering the meaning of completion, thereby establishing the meaning of the view. Mastering the basis of the wisdom that knows what is, thereby establishing the way of abiding of the pure basis. Mastering the path of the wisdom that sees how many, thereby the power of the great wisdom that simultaneously realizes the way of establishing the path and the stages of the ground and path, makes manifest the reality of the Great Perfection as it is, with the samadhi of original purity, spontaneously accomplished, and ultimately attains the stability that is unwavering from its nature. If one practices this extremely swift path of the Tögal instructions, all obstacles and deviations will be naturally cut off, and it is a profound instruction for reaching the ultimate end of the path. Second, the common preliminaries also have two aspects: common and uncommon. First, the general presentation is the four thoughts that turn the mind. Regarding this, here, contemplating the difficulty of finding leisure and opportunity, one abandons all the activities of this life, subduing enemies, protecting friends, attachment, hatred, and so on. The activities of the three doors are focused solely on the sacred Dharma, and non-Dharma activities are abandoned from afar. And conditioned

While understanding that all phenomena are impermanent in nature, do not merely dwell on the thought of practicing Dharma, nor procrastinate. For example, like a fire on a beautiful woman's head, without laziness or distraction, it is crucial to diligently pursue the sacred Dharma and strive to attain its essence. No matter where one is born in samsara, high or low, one cannot escape the nature of suffering. All actions and deeds are the root of samsara, the seeds of suffering. For example, just as there is no fragrance in an unclean swamp, understand that there is not even a moment's opportunity for happiness in the state of samsara. Therefore, now, relying on this precious human body with leisure and endowments, strive to attain the state of perfect enlightenment. Having gained faith in karma and its results, do not misunderstand the key points of what to adopt and abandon. If you do not carefully guard against subtle karmic consequences, contemplate the reason why the ripening of your own actions will inevitably fall upon you. Do not be arrogant, thinking you have high views and vast knowledge, and thus disregard karma and its effects. Do not be confused about what to adopt and abandon in terms of virtue and non-virtue, but understand them correctly, so as to cross the sea of miserable samsara. To accomplish this thoroughly, take refuge in the glorious and precious Lama. In order to attain the ultimate happiness—the precious state of perfect enlightenment—in this very lifetime, dedicate your life to the Dharma and place your trust in the Lama and the Three Jewels. Practice in secluded places, associate with the wisdom of awareness. Relying only on clothes to cover the body and food to sustain life, abandon the eight worldly concerns from afar, and tirelessly don the armor of diligent practice. This is of utmost importance. In particular, in the uncommon preliminary practices, it is necessary to distinguish between samsara and nirvana. As it says in the Madhyamakavatara, "If samsara and nirvana are not distinguished, the bonds of body, speech, and mind in the three realms will not be severed, therefore, distinguish between samsara and nirvana." Therefore, the nature of the body, speech, and mind of all sentient beings is primordially pure, but obscured by temporary delusion and attachment to appearances. From beginningless time until now, they have been continuously wandering in the six realms, experiencing suffering. Therefore, now, distinguish the boundaries of the three doors with samsara and nirvana, From now on, sever the root of rebirth in samsara.
