One should contemplate in this way: the enemy was once my mother, and I was her son. At that time, she nurtured me with immeasurable kindness, just like the present mother. When I grew up, took a wife, and became the master of the house, I forgot the kindness of my mother, abandoned her, beat her, and did not give her food or clothing, eventually causing her to die of starvation. Thinking that I am now repaying that debt. Or, sometimes the enemy is reborn as a wealthy and prosperous person, while I lose my parents from childhood and become poor and destitute. That person treats me like a son, providing food and clothing, raising me to adulthood, and giving me great help. But for some reason, once I gain power, I turn around and inflict various harms on that person, even taking away all his wealth, etc. Thinking about these situations, and thinking that in return for kindness, I still generate harmful thoughts, this is not right, and I should practice this repeatedly. Even if the enemy comes to mind, I should think: in the past, this person did so many good things for me, but I harmed him, how shameful! I should practice to the point of generating a feeling similar to love. Also, relatives may become enemies and inflict harm. Now I must also share their suffering, and in order to repay them, how should I do good? Thinking that I was once that relative's mother, giving help, but they turned around and repaid me with harm. When thinking about the enemy, I should think about these situations in reverse. Now I also pretend to be a relative, and for their sake, I have accumulated countless attachments and hatreds, and in a self-righteous way, I have accumulated various sins, which ultimately lead to unimaginable suffering. Thinking about these situations, even when I think of relatives, I should practice to the point of inner peace. The reason for these is not to generate attachment to the enemy or hatred to relatives, but to counteract past attachments and hatreds. It is also said that benefit Does not cause any harm, therefore, one should focus on a neutral person who does not generate great attachment or hatred. A neutral person may sometimes become a friend and sometimes become an enemy. Benefit and harm are uncertain, and are not objects of attachment and hatred. Just as a neutral person may sometimes become a friend and give help, and sometimes become an enemy and inflict harm. Because one should not generate attachment and hatred, one should maintain inner peace and not generate attachment and hatred in the future. Otherwise, the reason

Even towards someone with a slight connection, one might develop attachment or hatred. The order of meditating on that is: Therefore, first towards friends and acquaintances, like treating neutral parties, one should abandon attachment. Then towards enemies, also like treating neutral parties, abandon hatred, and make no distinction between close and distant. Towards neutral parties as well, in order to be free from delusion, generate the mind to eliminate afflictions together with sentient beings, meditate on such love that is free from craving. As it says above, delusion refers to clinging to sentient beings who have never benefited or harmed oneself due to ignorance, and not accomplishing their benefit, and although loving with equanimity, it must be without mixing with craving. Then, all beings want happiness and want to abandon suffering, but unknowingly engage in the causes of suffering. Alas, may the miserable masses of beings, together with their habitual tendencies, be pacified, may their minds be at peace. May beings tormented by intense attachment and hatred also have peaceful minds, be free from attachment and hatred, and have no distinction between close and distant. Thinking about these meanings in the mind, reciting them in speech, do like this: Thinking like this, from one being to two, three, from one place to one continent, from four continents to one thousand, two thousand, three thousand great thousand worlds, meditate on all worlds. As it is said in the scriptures. The measure of that meditation is, the measure of proficiency is equality between oneself and others, enemies and friends. As it is said in the scriptures. Afterwards, the object of impartiality without focus, all is mind, mind itself is like the sky. In that ultimate unborn emptiness, the appearance of mind abides free from elaboration. After meditating like that, in that object of impartiality and so on, all phenomena are the magical display of mind, and mind itself is like the sky, abiding equally in that ultimate emptiness, this is impartiality without focus, it is the union of skillful means and wisdom. Transformation. After that, meditating on loving-kindness is: After generating equanimity towards all beings like that, just as one's own mother wants to attain happiness, think the same way towards all sentient beings. The object of loving-kindness is all sentient beings, the state is wishing them to attain temporary human and divine happiness, and ultimately attain the happiness of perfect enlightenment. Thinking like this in the mind, from one being to all beings, until reaching all directions, meditate like that. As it is said in the scriptures. That way of meditating is, although the object is all sentient beings, it is necessary to meditate, but first towards oneself.
