Starting from saying "seeing" when not seeing, wanting to transform the understanding of what is touched by the body into misunderstanding or other states, ultimately lying or showing gestures through any means of body or speech, so that the other party accepts and understands its meaning. If the other party does not understand, it is considered meaningless chatter. Fifth is divisive speech. As mentioned before: Divisive speech aims to divide others, and is the speech of an afflicted mind. Its basis is the harmony and disharmony among sentient beings. From the perspective of three thoughts, for those similar to oneself, the motivation is to want to divide harmonious people, and to want to make disharmonious people even more discordant. The action is to speak hostile true or false words, with the ultimate goal of making the listener understand, without relying on whether or not it can successfully divide the other party. Sixth is harsh speech. As mentioned before: Harsh speech is unpleasant to the ear. Its basis is becoming the source of all suffering, unpleasant sentient beings. The thought is that for those similar to oneself, the motivation is to want to speak harsh words. The action is to speak true or false faults about lineage, discipline, and other behaviors. The ultimate goal is to make the other party understand. Seventh is idle talk. As mentioned before: All afflicted speech is idle talk. Others are more afflicted than this, such as flattery, singing and dancing, and bad treatises. Its basis is not conforming to any of the previous three (lying, divisive speech, harsh speech), and does not have practical meaning. From the perspective of three thoughts, for those similar to oneself, the cognition is to regard the expressed content as true. The action is that all speech caused by afflictions is idle talk, but some teachers believe that listing "other afflictions" separately is to distinguish the severity of the sins. Some ancient teachers also believed that in addition to speech acts such as lying, for example, speaking flattering words to monks with wrong livelihoods, singing out of greed, actors speaking idle talk to please others, clinging to and propagating the bad treatises of outsiders, similarly, uttering lamentations, starting to speak meaningless words such as gossip, and finally finishing speaking. Eighth, greed. As mentioned before: Greed refers to coveting the wealth of others through improper means. Its basis is wealth and enjoyment. From the perspective of three thoughts, one has a cognition of that thing and is driven by any of the three afflictions.
