There are two aspects to consider: the classification of actions and protections, and a brief explanation of the important distinctions of actions. First, there are two parts: the classification of the results of non-virtuous actions and the classification of the results of virtuous actions. The first part has two sections: Identifying the ten non-virtuous paths of action and explaining their results. The first part is from the Treasury of Knowledge (Abhidharmakośa): "From these, summarizing the main points, the various differences between virtue and non-virtue, are taught as the ten paths of action." This means that there are many virtuous and non-virtuous actions, but from these, the main or largest are summarized into ten. The ten non-virtuous actions are: killing, stealing, and sexual misconduct, which are the three actions of the body; lying, divisive speech, harsh speech, and idle chatter, which are the four actions of speech; covetousness, malice, and wrong view, which are the three paths of action of the mind, totaling ten. The first, killing, is from the Treasury of Knowledge: "Killing is intentionally, without error, killing another being." This requires four aspects: the basis, intention, action, and completion. The basis is another sentient being; the intention includes recognition, motivation, and afflictions. Recognition is divided into correct and incorrect. For example, if one is going to war or intends to kill anyone they encounter, this kind of motivation is generally present. When killing, if the object to be killed is recognized as another person or recognized as that person, then this recognition may be correct or incorrect. On the other hand, if one intends to kill someone like a donor but mistakenly kills someone like an offering recipient, then from the perspective of recognition, there is no fundamental sin. The motivation is the desire to kill, and the affliction is through any of the three poisons. These should also be applied accordingly to the following items. The action is performed through weapons, poison, or mantras, etc., whether done by oneself or caused to be done by others. For example, if someone is involved in a plan by others to murder someone, then when those others take the life of the person to be killed, even if one did not act directly, it is equivalent to causing others to do it. The completion is that the person to be killed must die before oneself. If the person to be killed dies before oneself or at the same time as oneself, then one has not completed the fundamental sin. Therefore, it is also necessary to understand the downfall of killing. Second, stealing, as mentioned earlier: Stealing is taking another's property, through force and

To possess by stealth. That is, any object that does not belong to oneself but is possessed by another. In thought, to recognize this and to wish to acquire it with any of the three poisons of greed, hatred, and delusion as motivation. In action, actually seizing by force or secretly stealing by stealth without being noticed, whether done by oneself or caused to be done by others, is the same. The ultimate goal is to generate the thought of possessing it as one's own. The third is sexual misconduct. It says: Wanting to engage in sexual activity with those with whom it is inappropriate to engage in sexual activity, there are four types of sexual misconduct. So-called inappropriate sexual activity is engaging in sexual activity with beings with whom it is not appropriate to engage in sexual activity, that is, arousing desire for sentient beings and engaging in sexual misconduct. In terms of object, those with whom it is inappropriate to engage in sexual activity, whether male or female, are those who have been possessed by others; those who are related to parents, descendants, or guardians of parents within seven generations; those who have taken vows such as novices; non-reproductive organs such as the mouth, anus, one's own or another's thighs, hands, etc.; inappropriate places such as temples, the supports of the Three Jewels; one's own parents, monks, or many other people can see and hear, places with light; inappropriate times such as full-term pregnant women, menstruation, breastfeeding, being overwhelmed by grief, fasting days, etc. Any of these situations, even if it is one's own wife, will become sexual misconduct. The intention is the same as the previous three, and the action is to strive to accomplish this, and when the two organs are finally joined, it becomes the main action. The fourth is lying. It was said earlier: Lying is knowing and changing the meaning of another's words. The three consciousnesses of eye, ear, and mind, what is experienced by the three, the seeing, hearing, and distinguishing consciousnesses, are not explained in order of realization. That is, the objects are seeing, hearing, distinguishing, and realizing, and the four that are the opposite of these, such as not seeing, etc., for a total of eight. Among them, experiencing with the eye, etc., is seeing. Similarly, hearing with the ear, distinguishing with the mind, and the four that are realized by the other three consciousnesses of nose, tongue, and body. And the opposite of that, such as not seeing with the eye, etc., needs to be studied. Furthermore, for the object who can understand the meaning of what is said, the intention is the same as the previous three, and in terms of recognition, clearly seeing something with the eye but saying that it is not seen.
