Therefore, since there is nothing that can prevent the impermanence of death, I think I will surely die. Second, life cannot be increased, and there are obstacles that reduce life. As it is said in "Resting the Mind Itself": "This life has no increase, it is constantly depleted." And as it is said in "Entering the Bodhisattva's Way": "Day and night do not stop, this life is constantly depleted, even if there is no increase, how can we not die?" It means that if it is like food and other things, if you don't enjoy it and leave it there, it will not be exhausted for a few days or months, and you can also look for it from other places to increase it. However, one's own life is not like that, it will not stop even for a moment, but will completely disappear, always be exhausted, and because it will not be exhausted, there is no possibility of increasing it from other places, so how can people like me not die? In the current situation, being able to live to ninety years old is also the limit. Apart from that, just like the water in a pond gradually decreasing, there is no increase at all. Moreover, years and months are constantly consuming it. Not only that, as it is said that a life of sixty years has been exhausted, all people also exhaust one day with 21,600 breaths, thirty days exhaust one month, twelve months exhaust one year, twelve years are called one cycle, and after about five cycles, life comes to an end, so I think I will surely die. Third, even if you are alive, there is no time to practice the Dharma, and you will surely die. As it is said in "Words to Prevent the Four Distortions": "The life of people in this world, even if it is extremely long, is only a hundred years, of which the first is childhood and the last is old age, so it is meaningless. Sleep and disease, etc., all destroy all hope. How much is left for a person who is at ease?" It means that in this era of a hundred years of life, no matter how long people's lives are, they are only a hundred years. Among them, the first ten years are childhood, and the body and mind are not yet mature, so they cannot practice the Dharma. Below eighty years old, the last twenty years are old age, and they cannot be diligent in good deeds. Half of a hundred years, fifty years, are occupied by sleep. The remaining time is also occupied by diseases and conflicts, etc., so there is no time to practice the Dharma in this life, and all the wishes to practice the Dharma

That which destroys pride. Therefore, it is possible to practice the Dharma in a comfortable way, but how much life is left in the beings born in the human realm? There is none. This shows that even if one can live, one does not understand the Dharma in childhood, one does not remember the Dharma in youth, one is unable to do so in old age, and half of the life in between is occupied by sleep, and the rest is occupied by distractions, food, and drink. The time left to practice the Dharma is less than five or six years, so it is certain that there is no time to practice the Dharma, and one will surely die. Therefore, one must resolve to practice the sacred Dharma. As it says in Resting the Mind in its Natural State: "Since life is impermanent and death is certain, accumulate the sacred Dharma right now." Like it is said. Second, contemplate the uncertainty of the time of death. As it says in the Wish-Fulfilling Treasury: "Like a guest at a market, like a tree by the water's edge, like thunder and clouds, like the movement of the sun and moon, impermanent and moving, death is swift." Like a guest at a market, one does not know when he will leave, a tree by the water's edge, one does not know when it will fall, similarly, thunder sounds, clouds suddenly dissipate, and the types of beings, including animals, etc., these deaths are uncertain in time, and the movement of the sun and moon is very rapid, and there is no certainty in going south, etc., with these metaphors illustrating that death is swift and the time of death is uncertain. The reason for this is that the lifespan of us Jambudvipa people is uncertain, the causes of death are many, the causes of life are few, and the body is as fragile as a bubble in the water, so the time of death is uncertain. First, the lifespan of the people of Jambudvipa is uncertain. Generally speaking, all sentient beings in the three realms have their own lifespans Although this is the case, other beings, except for those whose voices are unpleasant, are not certain to live to their respective lifespans. Among them, the people of Jambudvipa, as it says in the Treasury of Knowledge: "Here, the lifespan is uncertain, first ten, then countless." This means that in the past, one could live for countless years, and in the end, the shortest lifespan would not exceed ten years, and there is great uncertainty in between. Even now, it is uncertain who will die first, the old, the young, or the middle-aged, and many people younger than oneself have died in the past. Similarly, one is not certain to die later than these older people. As it says in the Compendium of Topics: "Tomorrow and the afterlife, which comes first"
