Cutting and Two. Other categories of differentiation are also found in the Excellent Golden Garland: For gods, nagas, yakshas, spirits, flesh-eaters, and kumbhandas, giving flesh and blood is the outer cutting. Understanding the six realms as parents, cultivating love and compassion, and cultivating the supreme bodhicitta, is the inner cutting of the yogi me. Visualizing ghosts and demons as yidam deities, offering them with uncontaminated nectar, and requesting the two siddhis, is the secret cutting of the yogi me. In order to completely cut off the root of samsara, self-grasping, cultivating emptiness and the true nature, this is my suchness cutting. Practicing cutting in this way is the intention of Shakyamuni Buddha, the instruction of Atisha, and the practice of the yogi me. Thus it is said. For places of hope, such as the Buddhas, cutting off the clinging to reality is the cutting of the extreme of peace without hope. For places of doubt, such as hells, cutting off the clinging to reality is the cutting of the extreme of existence without doubt. Whatever arises of grasping, the mind's thoughts, letting them naturally subside in the state of reality, is the root of all things, the cutting of inner meaning. Merely the self-manifestation of wisdom, realizing that the three kayas are not established elsewhere, cutting off the clinging to reality, is the cutting that prevents attachment to the fruit to be attained. Realizing that all the causes of samsara, all conceptual thoughts, are separated from the root of clinging to reality, is the cutting that prevents the root of the three to be abandoned. Regarding the opposing forces, the four maras, etc., as merely illusions stirred from the depths of one's own mind, cutting off the clinging to reality, is the cutting that liberates from the four obstructing maras. These also have differences. As Machig Labdrön said: Without hope, cut the Buddha. Without doubt, cut hell. Without grasping thoughts, cut inner knowing. Wisdom is self-arisen, cut the three kayas. Conceptual thoughts are rootless, cut the three realms. What is to be cut is confusion, cut the four maras. Thus it is said. Third, the explanation of the words: Because it is the cutter of inverted and confused thoughts such as self-grasping, it is called "cutting." The "Sacred Dharma Cutting Demon Territory" is also like this. As it is said: All sufferings and obscurations, the sacred Dharma that eliminates obscurations. Thus, whatever is practiced is the eliminator of all sufferings and obscurations, or, is the supreme perfect Buddha's.

Is it the way taught by (the Buddha)? Because it is to be practiced by virtuous people, is it the true Dharma? As it is said in the sutra, "What I call 'self' is the mind of Mara, and you have become like that." As it is said, because it obstructs the path to liberation, is this self-grasping, which is indicated by the name of Mara, to be cut off? Or because it is the antidote to cutting off the four Maras, it is called the cutting of Mara, just as the medicine that cures diseases is called the medicine of diseases, and the cutting field, which is combined with the text to be interpreted, the meaning of the cutting to be interpreted, is like the place where it abides, so it is the cutting field, just as the teachings that do not gather many categories of words and meanings in a container or place are called categories. If combined with the meaning to be expressed, cutting refers to the realization of the subject, and the field should be understood as the meaning of the absence of self of the field. The realization of cutting off self-grasping, whatever wisdom enters into the meaning of the absence of self of the field, so it is said. If we summarize the key points, in order to understand the meaning of selflessness as the field, it is the realization of cutting off self-grasping, so the words are abbreviated to make it easy to express. Showing it upside down, like some words combined in the Sanskrit style. The cutter and the interpreter, if combined with both, then those who desire liberation enter through the three doors of hearing, thinking, and meditation, so it is said. Fourth, the boundary of the earth is from entering the path to the middle of the Buddha land. For great compassion and the wisdom of realizing emptiness, etc., from the arising of false experiences, it is also established as cutting, and wisdom will not harm it. The Buddha, the noble one, is the ultimate cutting because he has completely cut off the obstacles including habitual tendencies. In the previous guiding texts, I have not seen the nature and classification, etc., explained together like this, so here I explain it a little more clearly. However, because it is the time for target guidance and practice, rather than looking for the trivialities of words, it is better to mainly cut off the disputes of words, so those who understand the cutting method should not make arbitrary comments, because the Buddhist scriptures of the Buddha are not said to be for the purpose of argument.
