arise in the continuum, dreams are clear and prescience arises, body, speech, and mind experience bliss and power blazes, Gods, demons, and humans gather involuntarily, offering food, wealth, and enjoyment, and providing immeasurable respect and service. Becoming happy and proud of these, and developing great arrogance, they become obstacles on the path to liberation, so they are named the demons of joy and pride. Therefore, no matter what qualities arise or appear, do not regard them as qualities in the nature where appearance and mind are inseparable. Since there is not even a hair's breadth of permanence or truth in those that have become the mind of joy and pride and the object of the mind, know that everything is like an illusion or a dream. Meditate on it as an illusion or a dream, practice it as an illusion or a dream. The mind that is proud of all qualities, together with its object, is placed in equipoise in the state of emptiness, free from all extremes of elaboration. In such a state of great emptiness, free from extremes, meditate on all phenomena as illusions or dreams. Taking the illusion or dream as the path, cutting off the demon of joy and pride that is like an illusion or a dream, altruistic activities that are like illusions or dreams will arise, son of lineage. Pride The so-called demon of pride is that the root of all three demons lies in pride. It is extremely important to cut off the root of pride, and pride refers to self-grasping. The cause of wandering in samsara, the root of all faults, is created by self-grasping, and therefore it becomes a demon that does not allow liberation to be attained, so it is called the demon of pride or the demon of self-grasping. Because grasping at what is without self as self, the mind becomes afflicted, and whatever good or bad arises in the mind is grasped by conceptual thought and clung to as true, this is called pride. That is, the so-called object and subject, or all inner and outer phenomena that are grasped as "I" and "mine," are not truly established, but are known by the wisdom of self-awareness, so that the root of clinging to truth arises from the object. Without losing pride in good and bad thoughts, free from all extremes of mental elaboration of intention and aspiration, becoming a non-conceptual, empty state. With the self-grasping dissolved, the mind becomes relaxed and loose, afflictions

The clarity that cannot be shaken by conditions, the awareness that is free from inner and outer grasping, clear and distinct. The wisdom that is sharp and clear, without attachment to anything. To meet the meaning of emptiness like the sky, free from the experience of clinging to reality, is to cut the demon of pride. If the demon is cut, then all the demons that arise from it are cut off. Therefore, when there is self, there is also demon. When there is no self, there is also no demon. Since there is no object to be cut in the absence of self, there is no fear or dread. The wisdom of awareness that is free from extremes is the fruit of being freed from the four demons by increasing intelligence in all activities. This is also a brief explanation of the types of the four demons and how cutting the four demons frees one in one's own place and ultimately attains the final fruit. May this meaning of the words be held in mind by the fortunate son. Others who are fortunate should also keep it in mind. Take it up with swift diligence and expand the mind of benefiting others! Thus it was said. Furthermore, the distinctions of how one transforms into a demon in the context of which path are also explained, but they are not written here. These methods of begging and the four demons are extremely important for those who cut, and the words of Machig are very clear and blessed. Because it is profound, although there are many words, they are kept as they are. Secondly, there are two ways in which the teachings are taught: the actual and the way in which deception arises from it, as shown by past examples. First, regarding the demon of joy and elation, there are two types: with obstacles and without obstacles. The one with obstacles is when others show respect, praise, gather as attendants, are made patrons and offer great food and wealth, and show faith, devotion, and respect for the object of worship, etc. The appearance of good and beautiful images is the one with obstacles. In this case, the arising of excessive thoughts such as joy and satisfaction is the measure of begging. If one takes the signs of accomplishment and interdependence as good omens and repeatedly clings to joy, happiness, satisfaction, and elation, then one is controlled. As soon as joy and elation arise, one should search for the flaws of unreality as in a dream or illusion, and if one cuts off attachment like poison, then it is cut off. The one without obstacles is when one's own dwelling and tent are good without any cause or condition. Possessions are also good. Lineage and clan are also good. Siblings and relatives
