What is it, how is it? This so-called mind is like how without fire, there are no sparks, and without water, there is no sound of water or the reflection of stars. Similarly, if the mind has no basis, there will be no appearances or discriminations. If the mind were in the body, there would be no external appearances, and how could dream appearances manifest as solid earth, stones, mountains, and rocks? When it vanishes without a trace in the morning, if you observe this, you might think that the mind itself appears in the space of mind. After I asked this, he said, "Your view is somewhat understood, but tell me about your practice and meditation." I said, "I don't know meditation, tell me about meditation." He said, "Oh, son of good family, each teacher has their own way of guiding meditation. Some say that these discriminations must be stopped, so they teach; Some say that you must look at these discriminations to recognize them; some say that you must nurture discriminations to correct the bad; some say that you must mix the mind and the sky." They are surprised that happiness, suffering, and sickness arise from the fault of not leaving the mind in its natural state. Some say, "It is emptiness," and also say that there must be a subtle clinging of consciousness. No matter what names you give them, they are definitely not the correct path. Now, if you want to enter the correct path, then all of the pure realms above and the impure realms of samsara below, are inseparable from the nature of reality, the sky. Knowing that it is in a state of oneness with the sky is the manifestation of the sky, so rest in that state and do not be distracted! Not being distracted means without aim and without grasping. Without meditation and without observation. Without nurturing and without protecting. It is something that cannot be spoken, naturally letting go as before." I asked him, "What should I do with these discriminations?" The young man said, "Discriminations cannot be denied, without any feeling or attachment, know that they are naturally letting go." I asked, "Is the sky seen with the eyes?" He said, "That which is seen naturally is it." I said, "It is not right to see the sky with the eyes like this. If the mind does not see the mind, what is the use of the manifestation of the sky?" He said, "The mind looks at the mind because there are both a seer and a seen, so know that looking at discriminations is like an old man

It is as meaningless as watching children's games. All of samsara and nirvana are emptiness. Unless one recognizes that samsara and nirvana are inseparable, and are the state of being one with emptiness, it is enough to not let the eyes leave the sky. The meaning is that the primordial awareness appears as eye consciousness, and the eye is no different in essence from that awareness. A dead corpse has no eyes to perceive forms. In dreams, forms appear without eyes. It is the same for those in the bardo state; they perceive forms without eyes. This shows that it is primordial awareness. All sentient beings are deluded because they have not realized the ground, but apart from that, they do not see other thoughts, so it is not a state of delusion. Look at how all sentient beings are deluded by relying on the appearance and clinging of conceptual thoughts! Therefore, conceptual thought is something that can be transformed. Unless one has a deep conviction that all the phenomena of samsara and nirvana do not go beyond the nature of emptiness, then emptiness is called perfectly pure, and therefore one must not go beyond the state of manifesting in the three times. If one becomes familiar with this, then ultimately the realm of reality, free from elaboration, will be revealed, just as there is no darkness when dawn breaks. One will surely reach a state free from the effort of practice. Thus he spoke, and then vanished. From that time on, I took not letting my eyes leave the sky as the path, and practiced with single-pointed concentration, and arrived at the realm of reality free from all extremes, and realization burst forth. From where do samsara and nirvana arise? All phenomena appear perfectly, free from all elaborated phenomena. The nature of the primordial ground is the essence of emptiness. There is no other example to compare it to other than emptiness itself. In the Sutra of the Perfection of Wisdom of the Sugatas, it is also said: "If one practices yoga on the Perfection of Wisdom, it is practicing yoga on emptiness." By the meaning of what was said, understand the ultimate meaning. How it is outside, so it is inside. What is inside and outside is the self-radiance of the inside. What is the self-radiance of the inside? It appears like the outside. Labels are placed on differentiated phenomena with names and terms. The unspeakable and unthinkable is made possible through speech. The meaning that cannot be represented is fully represented by representation. All the Buddhas of the three times are skilled in means. The ultimate truth.
