The original nature, the Sugata-garbha, Has not been blessed by the Buddhas of excellence, Has not been harmed by evil sentient beings, Transcends the eight extremes of elaboration, Possesses the Dharma of the three liberations, From the beginning, all sentient beings of the three realms Have never been separated from this for a moment. The pervasive wisdom is prajna, When the inherent, perfectly accomplished radiance is clear, That is the awareness, the Dharmakaya. In the state of slumbering in ignorance, The dark realm of the alaya, the cause of delusion, arises. It does not change in its essence, It wanders in delusion on its nature. Thus are Buddhas and sentient beings, Thus is the name of the alaya known. All suffering and happiness, and all of samsara, Are the habits of the previously arising, sudden ignorance. All-encompassing, all-gathering, This is the basis, thus it is known. Like thick darkness, thick sleep, Or like a state of fainting, There is no agent of benefit or harm. The face of the basis is obscured by obscurations, It is the home of all afflictions and delusions, From which arises intense ego-grasping. The self and its objects are established, From the self arises the form aggregate, What is established in dependence on the self is, The appearing container world, And the moving sentient beings, The nature of the five desirable qualities manifests, This is like the sun and sunlight. The appearing phenomena and the objects of grasping, Are made by previous conceptual thoughts. From my body arises mind, In the realm of the five senses, consciousness arises. Grasping the whole as coarse, Is known as the five consciousnesses. Subtly distinguishing each separately, Is called the consciousness of mind. In short, that consciousness of mind, To the previous conceptual thought, Applies names, grasps meanings, clings to things as real, Distinguishes self and other. Accepting pleasure and pain, and indifference. This is the subsequent conceptual thought, Grasping is called mind. Thus, the appearing and the appearing-maker, both, T11618 - 309 What changes on the subtle level, Is never constant even for a moment. What changes on the coarse level, Is the appearance of day, the appearance of night, the appearance of this life and the next. It is a false picture of the appearance of the container and its contents. For example, within a year, There are three hundred and sixty appearances of day, And three hundred and sixty appearances of night, Without truth or falsehood, look at them equally. Likewise, in the past times, The appearances of day and the appearances of night have passed in great numbers, Equally, without truth or falsehood, look at them. Buddhas and

Vast indeed! Do not cling to the vessel and its contents. Samsara and the lower realms, do not cling to truly established self-characteristics. Saving deities and destroying demons, do not cling to manifest accomplishment. All sentient beings deluded in the three realms, are mistaken because they look at their own minds. Therefore, do not look at your own mind. Look at the false basis of names, look at the emptiness of the ultimate essence of things. Look at how gods and demons have no benefit or harm, look at how samsara and nirvana have no place of their own. Be sure to look at the illusory experience of happiness and suffering. From here, one goes to the next life, do not cling to the body and the environment. Appearance is nothing more than a change of state. If one is discerning Tl1618 - 310 Of day and night, appearance changes, it is not going, therefore, measure everything in this way. The way of abiding is perfectly accomplished, seeing the way is the truth of Dharma. If you do not understand the way it is, you will be far from emptiness. To decorate and embellish with concepts, you will be far from the true meaning. Thus, appearance is conventional truth, if not liberated into the realm of ultimate truth, then the cycle of doing good and evil, one cannot avoid falling into the lower realms. The original ground's five lights are, in the illusory appearance, mixed with the five elements. The wisdom clear light's five lights are, the five colors that appear first as rays. Thus, of all vessels and contents, the names and things appear as self-nature. If examined, the essence will collapse into emptiness. Emptiness is the essence, there is no other than the essence. The essence is without good or bad state, the dharmas of samsara and nirvana, gather and merge and are perfected. This is also called gathering and perfection. The essence, the great primordial purity, is purified of all faults and stains, perfecting all wisdom and qualities, therefore it is called ultimate bodhicitta. Thus, the state of emptiness of essence, is confused in the unpredicted. Because it abides in the original state, the original wisdom is the eye of wisdom. Confused in mind and intellect. From the space of Dharma, emerging, and the understanding arising in the continuum, the two, are the same, the same, confused. If confused, showing signs by behavior, will be defeated by others' arguments. The self-radiance of awareness merges, and the alaya consciousness, empty and clear, the two, are the same, the same, confused. Grasping the self-nature of thought, and the manifest Dharma nature of awareness, the two, are the same, the same, confused. Thought empty
