The clinging to inherent existence, the clinging to reality, does not cease. Regarding both of these as unpredicted and clinging to them as Svatantrika, since they do not transcend mind, they are also called mind. Although the name 'awareness' is applied to it, it is like naming a child in the mother's womb as 'son,' because the characteristic of awareness returning to itself has not been realized. Not realizing the great emptiness of samsara and nirvana is ignorance. The functions of awareness and ignorance are also known by these names. Awareness, first, is to ascertain that all phenomena encompassed by appearance, existence, samsara, and nirvana are emptiness; and ultimately, from the perspective of appearance, appearing without truly existing, like the stars in the ocean appearing without truly existing in the nature of the ocean, becoming one taste with the play of the ocean; like the rainbow in the sky appearing without truly existing in the nature of the sky, becoming one taste with the play of the sky; all appearances of the container and its contents, appearing without truly existing from the nature of the ground, the Sugata-garbha, knowing as it is, like the play of the ground, the Sugata-garbha, becoming one taste, awareness manifests, like dawn breaking in the expanse of the sky, without needing to meditate, samsara and nirvana merge into the space of great enlightenment; without needing to look, all of samsara and nirvana, like the stars in the ocean, are self-aware without clinging; without needing to fabricate, the ground, the essence, samsara and nirvana are self-liberated in great purity and equality; without needing to aim, the field is unobstructed, without clinging, vast and expansive, wide open; the body, speech, mind, qualities, and activities of all the Buddhas of the three times and their retinues, the inexhaustible wheel of adornment, manifest and are transformed freely. In ultimate truth, merely recognizing the fundamental awareness abiding as the Dharmakaya grants mastery over the life of samsara and nirvana. Gaining mastery is not like relying on water and paper, etc., and stating interdependence, but rather gaining the mastery of the Buddhas and their retinues, and all the appearances of letters arising from the wisdom of awareness, their transmissions naturally enter into oneself. Through wisdom, all empowerments and transmissions are simultaneously obtained. Therefore, be sure to grasp the key point of not mistaking mind for awareness! If you do not understand the difference between mind and wisdom, you risk confusing mind with wisdom and wasting your life, so become skilled at distinguishing them.

Emaho! Mind is the mind of all sentient beings, the source of all discriminations, the uninterrupted realm, the nature of clarity and luminosity, and the very realm of all appearances. Although the uninterrupted knowing of mind can recognize the essence of meditation as being clear and open, the knowing of mind is the unlabelled root of samsara. Even if stability is attained in that, it is not superior to the two higher realms, but is the cause of being thrown into that, because the mind has not transformed into wisdom. Because the mind has not transformed into wisdom, all white and black actions are definitely directed towards samsara alone, and will never become a cause of liberation, so it is crucial to understand that one should not place confidence in that. It is a great fault that all great meditators remain without transcending this state, and if this is not recognized, then the nature of all clear appearances, the nature of all unlabelled things, and the deceptions of all kinds of appearances of gods and demons, clairvoyance, and confusion arise from this. If one makes only this the path, then one will definitely be confused in endless samsara, and will not go towards liberation and omniscience. Wisdom is the definitive understanding that all phenomena included in existence, samsara, and nirvana are empty, selfless, and without location, and the subsequent knowing that is constantly empty and without truth is called wisdom that realizes selflessness. With its great power, all appearances and mind gradually dissolve into the expanse, just as the moisture of the great ocean pervades all the ground of existence. The arising of great wisdom that realizes selflessness in the mindstream is like salt being moistened by water, and all phenomena of appearance are pacified into the original ground of the ocean. The arising of wisdom that realizes selflessness in the mindstream is like ice being moistened by heat, and all phenomena included in grasping and being grasped are pacified into the original ground. The arising of wisdom that realizes selflessness in the mindstream is like camphor being moistened by wind, and will transform into a great wind that reverses samsara and vanishes. Although all appearances appear on the knowing mind of a person in whom wisdom that realizes selflessness has arisen in the mindstream, on the deepest knowing mind
