The nature of the ground is empty like the sky, without any expectations, remaining in a state of empty blankness without any thoughts. Entering this state is like fainting, entering into meditative absorption, experiences arising from meditation, and the dissolution of appearances into the expanse, the wrapping of the Alaya by thick sleep, the transformation of appearances into places, and entering the bardo of death. The nature of the Alaya is devoid of mental clinging and attachment, wrapped in the empty ground itself. From this state, as the basis for the arising of appearances, clear and bright awareness arises, which is the Alaya-vijnana. This is self-illuminating and self-arising, not formed by external objects, nor involved in external objects, capable of manifesting anything. For example, clear and bright water can manifest stars; a clear and bright mirror can manifest images; clear and bright sky can manifest the world of containers and contents. Similarly, the empty and clear Alaya-vijnana can manifest all appearances. In this state, merely with the appearance of "I," awareness arises, and by grasping the self, the ground appears as other, and the object of appearance, the empty sky, is established. This becomes stable and manifests, and as the basis for the arising of appearances, what is called "mind" arises, revealing clarity. From this, the five objects of appearance arise, approaching and grasping, leading to attachment and delusion. Thus, by the obscuration of ignorance, the co-emergent wisdom, the nature of the ground, Om When the light is obscured, the way the radiance is transferred to external phenomena is: when the wisdom of accomplishing activities is obscured, the radiance is transferred to subtle grasping; when the wisdom of the Dharmadhatu is obscured, the radiance is transferred to the nature of the Alaya; when the mirror-like wisdom is obscured, the radiance is transferred to the Alaya-vijnana; when the wisdom of equality is obscured, the radiance is transferred to the afflicted mind; when the wisdom of discernment is obscured, the radiance is transferred to what is called "mind." The way the radiance of the five realms is transferred to the five great elements and the five minor elements is: in the realm of the all-pervading Dharmakaya, when the radiance of the wisdom of accomplishing activities is obscured, due to the condition of the movement of karmic winds, within the five great elements, the pure nature of the arising wind, the moving light, the radiance is transferred to green. From this, due to the condition of arising of grasping at reality and clinging to truth, it becomes thick and stable, and the coarse nature of the minor external element, wind.

also appears. Similarly, when the wisdom of the Dharmadhatu is obscured by ignorance, the great light of sound energy appears as a blue color. When one develops a sense of reality and true attachment to this, the small elements appear as space. Furthermore, when mirror-like wisdom is obscured by ignorance, the great light of sound energy appears as white. When one develops a sense of reality and true attachment to this, the small elements appear as water. Furthermore, when equality wisdom is obscured by ignorance, the great light of sound energy appears as yellow. When one develops a sense of reality and true attachment to this, the small elements appear as earth. Furthermore, when discriminating wisdom is obscured by ignorance, the great light of sound energy appears as red. When one develops a sense of reality and true attachment to this, the small elements appear as the nature of fire. Therefore, know that all elements arise from and pervade the five realms. The appearance of the eon forming from the five realms is as follows: In relative truth, in the realm of empty, unsupported space, on the basis of the wind mandala below, an ocean of peace and clarity forms. Furthermore, above it is the great, powerful golden earth. It is said that in the nature of these, a fire mandala forms. Furthermore, it is said that all sentient beings form like the essence and vapor of these. This is only said for the purpose of guiding those who are easily guided. However, in ultimate truth, the very first wisdom of the Dharmadhatu itself is the subtle grasping that obscures, entering into the realm of the nature of wind. Immediately, the basis of emptiness, appearing without support, is space. From that, the appearance in space continuously expands. Subtle grasping seizes the basis of ignorance, and obscures the wisdom that accomplishes actions. Therefore, the sound energy appears as wind, continuously expanding. Furthermore, wisdom like a mirror is obscured by ignorance, so the sound energy appears as water, continuously expanding. Furthermore, equality wisdom is grasped as a real object, so it appears as earth, continuously expanding. Furthermore, discriminating wisdom is obscured by ignorance, so it appears as fire, continuously expanding. From the perspective of these obscuring the essence, the arising of thoughts is as follows: From the perspective of obscuring Dharmadhatu wisdom, the thought of delusion arises; from the perspective of obscuring mirror-like wisdom, the thought of hatred arises; from the perspective of obscuring equality wisdom, the thought of pride arises; from the perspective of obscuring discriminating wisdom, the thought of desire arises.
