If the object of imputation is not established, then it is certain that no benefit has been conferred. All the accumulated sins, also observe in which direction and place they gather, or the state in which they abide. Because it is not established from the beginning and does not abide, it has harmed the mind. In the mind, observe and analyze the inside and outside, top and bottom, beginning and end, etc. From the mere appearance, it has already become emptiness, so it can be determined that there is not even a sesame seed's worth of harm. Oṃ (Tibetan: ཨོཾཿ, Devanagari: ओम्, Romanized Sanskrit: oṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: 嗡)! Thus it was said. Again, the Lord of Appearances said: Although it appears that there is no benefit or harm, I still think there is. Please show me that situation manifestly. After asking this, it was said: O Lord of Appearances, observe the mindstream of an old man who spends his life engaging in virtuous deeds of body, speech, and mind, and an old man who spends his life engaging in sinful, non-virtuous deeds. Both of them want happiness and do not want suffering. They see their own side as gods and the other side as demons. They hope for good and suspect evil, and so on. All their thoughts and desires are the same, so there is no good or bad. In the past, they were endlessly deluded in samsara because of these thoughts, actions, and desires, and they will continue to be deluded in this way in the future, so it can be determined that there is no difference. Thus it was said. Again, the Lord of Appearances said: Is there no karmic ripening for practicing virtue and vice? Please have the Teacher himself explain. After asking this, it was said: O great being, whatever great virtuous or evil deeds you do, until the exhaustion of their respective ripenings, the appearance of happiness and suffering will arise continuously. After the exhaustion of karma, the cause and effect will transfer to other places. The virtuous deeds of body and speech only temporarily accumulate merit, which will become an addition to samsara. Therefore, know that it is certain that you will not obtain permanent happiness. O Lord of Appearances, for emptiness that is free from elaboration, the gods who confer benefit have not conferred benefit. Because the so-called gods, including parents, causes and conditions, the place of origin, the three places of going, the shape, color, etc., and the place where the gods dwell, including east, south, west, north, above, below, intermediate directions, etc., must be observed, but they are not there. Because there is no place to abide and no object of reliance, the form seen by the eyes is not established, the sound heard by the ears is not, the smell...

The stain of feeling is absent; the taste experienced by the tongue is absent; the tactile sensation experienced by the body is absent. How then can benefit be conferred? Examine and scrutinize the outer, inner, and intermediate spaces of one's own dwelling, the head, tail, upper, lower, inner, and outer parts of the body. Nothing abides or is established anywhere. All mountains, trees, and forests Oṃ (藏文,梵文天城体:ॐ,梵文罗马拟音:oṃ,汉语字面意思:Om)! Reduce everything to dust and seek the deity from within the void. Examine the deity's abode and the one who abides from within the void of minute particles and indivisible particles. If a deity could possibly exist, How could an immaterial deity confer benefit upon a material self? Examine the nature of emptiness, which has no power to confer benefit upon emptiness, and thereby resolve that there is no place to be found. Examining the demons that cause harm is also like this: Those who are called "demons," the great enemies, who are regarded by all as causing harm and who have become objects of fear, where did they first arise from? Did they arise from earth? Did they arise from water? Did they arise from wind? Did they arise from space? If you think there is a source of arising, reduce those things to dust. Reduce them to minute particles. By examining even the void of what has been reduced to indivisible particles, if you search for the place of arising but do not find it, and if you think it arose from living beings, examine and scrutinize its elements, sense bases, flesh, blood, bones, and even the void of the marrow. Even if you see that there is no place to be found, if you still think that the deluded consciousness of sentient beings has become a demon, search for the place where it abides and examine which element it abides in: earth, water, fire, or wind. TI1617 - 093 By examining, you will not find a place of abiding. If you still think it exists, what is the shape, color, and sense base of the one who abides? The form that appears to the eye, The sound that appears to the ear, the smell that appears to the nose, the taste that appears to the tongue, and the tactile sensations that appear to the body—are these established or not? By examining, you will see that there is no place to be found. Finally, by examining the place of going and the one who goes, the place of going and the owner are not established. Furthermore, if those things called demons have transcended the realms of form, sound, smell, taste, and touch, how can they harm a material self? If the one who harms is emptiness and there is no place to be found, and if the place of harm is also not constituted by emptiness, then there is no way for emptiness to harm emptiness. If empty consciousness could harm others, then the consciousness of all sentient beings would devour and destroy one another.
