For old heart disease, one can drink a mixture of powdered pippali, long pepper, dill, asafoetida, calamus, haritaki, and manu mixed with cow urine. Alternatively, boil these same medicines with cow urine and drink the liquid after reducing it to one-fourth. For heart disease caused by a combination of three factors, first perform a fasting ritual, and then, combined with physical strength and power, treat according to which factor—wind, bile, or phlegm—is predominant. For heart disease caused by parasites, one can drink a mixture of powdered gnaphalium affine, ginger, and rue mixed with cow urine. The chapter on treating constipation, the nineteenth section, is complete. Next, the chapter on treating mental disorders and amnesia will be explained. Mental disorder is caused by the malice inflicted by others, or by eating and drinking unclean food and drink, or by fear and hatred, or by being tormented by sorrow, leading to the derangement and confusion of mind, intellect, and memory. It is said to have five types. The symptoms of mental disorder caused by wind are: frightening oneself and hitting oneself, crying, laughing, and singing. The symptoms caused by bile are: anger, wanting to excrete, threatening, pursuing, and so on. The symptoms caused by phlegm are: excessive sleep, speaking little, liking quiet and pursuing, and not wanting food. Mental disorder caused by a mixture of all factors has all these symptoms and is therefore incurable and should be avoided. Sudden mental disorder is caused by the disturbance of evil spirits such as gods. Know that it possesses non-human knowledge, dangerous knowledge, strength, speech, and courage, and so on. For mental disorder caused by wind, first take medicinal oil. For mental disorder caused by bile, first administer a purgative. For mental disorder caused by phlegm, first administer an emetic. In this way, after performing the respective preliminary treatments, gradually perform treatments such as gentle oil enemas and strong purgative enemas. After that, use calamus, Japanese raisin tree, the three fruits (haritaki, bibhitaki, amalaki), costus, and so on.
