Furthermore, applying a mixture of white sandalwood, cardamom, Sahadeva, and white flower grass to the body, or fumigating the body by burning these substances, can also dispel cold. Alternatively, grinding these same medicines into powder, mixing them with salt, ash from burnt barley, salt and acidic ferments, etc., and sesame oil, then boiling them together, and applying the remaining small amount of sesame oil to the body can also dispel cold. Applying yogurt water, cow urine, or warm salt water to the body, or pounding small-leaved rose, turmeric, and Shigru and applying them to the body can also dispel cold. For those who are extremely cold, wind-relieving herbs should be used, and a decoction of pounded licorice should be added to warm water for a medicinal bath. Alternatively, fumigate the body by burning sandalwood and agarwood, or fumigate by burning camphor and Gubeja. For women in their youth, with full and prominent breasts, a shapely figure, and a waist, etc., applying agarwood ointment to the body and using it frequently can eliminate extreme cold. Now, I will explain the dietary distinctions for those with epidemic diseases. For those with epidemic diseases, in terms of food, red-skinned rice, etc., and rice that matures in sixty days are best. For vegetables and broths, small lentils, green beans, small green beans, soybeans, and black green beans are best. For meat and broths, rabbit meat, deer meat, quail, partridge, quail, and roasted pheasant meat are best. For vegetables, the leaves of the Indian neem tree, quail, and bitter gourd, etc., are best. Regarding the observances to be followed: From the time of contracting an epidemic until recovery, one should avoid heavy foods, cold foods, cold water, sleeping during the day, and overexertion. If the epidemic causes other illnesses, such as dizziness, difficulty breathing, extreme thirst, vomiting, etc., these symptoms should be alleviated with appropriate medicines that do not harm the epidemic itself. For severe epidemics that cannot be controlled, and for which other rituals do not provide relief, one can apply large amounts of medicine to the body, bathe in medicinal decoctions or water blessed with mantras, perform pacifying rituals, and give alms, etc.

Through fire offerings, giving torma offerings, practicing asceticism, and extensively performing the rituals of accomplished mantras, diseases can be pacified. The signs of an epidemic occurring are: wanting to eat, having an itchy head, experiencing numbness, feeling light in the body, dust appearing, and strange tastes appearing in the mouth, these should be recognized. The chapter on curing epidemics, the fifth chapter, is complete. Now, the chapter on the signs of death is explained. If one does not understand that the patient's condition has reached its end, and blindly performs medical treatment, it will only be in vain, increasing the patient's suffering. Therefore, one should understand the lifespan through these three: messengers, signs of death, and omens. The signs of death refer to the state of the person who is about to die, the color of the body, the senses, and the changes in behavior. In short, a skilled doctor should recognize these as signs of death. If the senses are reversed and confused, hating the doctor, friends, and lama, while rejoicing in enemies, these are signs of impending death. Seeing clouds, rainbows, and lightning in the clear sky, or seeing countless palaces and mounts covering the sky, these indicate that one will not survive. If one cannot see the star called "Cloudless Star Woman," star clusters, and the nine planets, or if one sees the vast earth shrinking to only about eight steps in circumference, then it means that the life force has been exhausted. Seeing stars like burning flames during the day, or seeing the sun in various colors, or seeing the wind having a shape, these clearly indicate death. Seeing holes appearing in the direction of the rising sun, or not smelling the scent of a dying butter lamp, these are signs of impending death. If one sees one's own image in a mirror, etc., with missing limbs, or not seeing the image at all, or seeing various animal forms, then it means one is already in the abode of Yama, the Lord of Death. If the left eye is sunken, or the tongue turns black, or the nose is deformed, or the lips turn black and lose their shape, or the mouth becomes stiff, these should be avoided. Eyes turning red, or eyes becoming bloodshot, or eyes not moving, or filled with tears, or eyeballs protruding, or eyebrows drooping, or eyeballs protruding, these should be known as signs of becoming a corpse.
