Although it is the nature of something, it is not completely inverted. Because of clinging to purity alone, if it is thought to be pure at one time or at another time, it is because there may be attachment to desire and attachment to detachment, etc. Then, inverted perceptions of happiness and purity may also occur here. Because of clinging to happiness and purity alone, it should be said that it is because of these four views. It is not happiness itself or purity itself just because of these. For example, because of clinging to discipline and asceticism, the body that is produced and the habit of indulging in indulgence, the characteristic of being separated from them is purity itself, so various sufferings are regarded as happiness itself. Clinging to views is completely inverted, while clinging to discipline and asceticism is not. Because of clinging to purity alone, it can be inferred that there are only three views. Some say that what is done through discipline and asceticism is inverted. Other afflictions refer to the four, such as desire. Although they engage in augmentation and wrong conduct, they are not definite cognitions. Doubt, although it engages in wrong conduct, does not engage in augmentation and definite cognition. Therefore, it should not be said to be inverted, because they do not possess all three causes of inversion. Then, does what the sutras say, that only the four that possess the nature of views are inverted, show a contradiction? Here, only views are inverted, while perception and mind are not, because they are not definite cognitions like desire, etc. If so, is it not contradictory to the sutras? There is no contradiction, because "the power of mind and perception," etc., will be explained in detail. If both mind and perception are of an inverted nature, but are called inverted because they are similar to views, then why are feelings, etc., also similar to views, but not said to be so? This fault does not exist, because this is a statement that is in accordance with the world. It is precisely because of the world's reputation.

The function of earth has been discussed. Others say: For those who develop thoughts of permanence, etc., towards impermanence of formations, etc., in some cases, name and conceptualization, i.e., perception, are the nature of grasping at names. Therefore, only this is inverted, while feelings, etc., are not. The antidote to inversions is called wisdom, as it is said. To have thoughts of permanence, etc., towards the aspect of impermanence, or rather, from the aspect of support and ability, there will definitely arise conceptualization and grasping at names, therefore it is said that the mind is inverted. Thus it is also said: 'Drowned by the water of afflictions, this world is led by the mind.' All those inversions are abandoned by those who have entered the stream. Thus, the Blessed One said that it is impossible and there is no opportunity to seek external teachers from a person who possesses excellent views, and to commit killing. What are the four inversions? How many of them are abandoned by those who have entered the stream? How many are not abandoned? Answer: All have been abandoned. The reason for this is stated: Those who have the same views are to be abandoned by the path of seeing. Saying 'having the same' indicates that the two inversions of mind and perception are also abandoned by the path of seeing. If those who have faith and follow the Dharma also abandon these, why is it said that only those who have entered the stream abandon them? Answer: For those who have entered the stream, the bonds are like the difference between clothes, food, and drinks that are smeared and perfumed with fragrant incense, and they also have the enjoyment of desires, the possession of jewels, gold, and silver, etc. Therefore, those who do not have direct realization of wisdom have not abandoned inversions either. Therefore, it is called extreme entry, that is, for this reason, those who have entered the stream abandon everything, or rather, because they abandon without difference. From this, one can also understand the difference between those who have faith and those who follow the Dharma. There are twelve inversions, as it is said.
