And the meaning of realization. The so-called "teacher is close to oneself" means: The Blessed One, with his divine eye, observed that sentient beings were dying and being reborn in distress, and in order to protect them, he manifested the absorption of meditation, liberation, and samadhi. Therefore, it is said that only the divine eye can know and see. Others say that the cause is regarded as the effect and approached, and the manifest awareness is to practice samadhi in order to know and see. The so-called "differentiation of wisdom arising from practice" refers to starting from the non-revealing precepts practiced in the desire realm of the three realms, to impurity, breathing, mindfulness of the earth element, etc., as well as hearing and thinking, arising from meditation, non-leaking, the gate of liberation, entering into samadhi in a transcendent order, knowing the exhaustion of leaks, etc. The wisdom of these dharmas will obviously increase. Because one enters these dharmas in a wise way, it is to enter in order to thoroughly distinguish wisdom. The so-called "arising from practice" is to distinguish it from innate wisdom. Here, because it corresponds to samadhi, the meditation on the merits arising from practice is close. Like the diamond-like samadhi of the four meditations, that which follows and corresponds to it is the practice of samadhi that can exhaust the defilements. The so-called "close to oneself" is to be close to oneself, which is synonymous with "doing for oneself." The so-called "therefore only the four meditations are mentioned" means: Because the Buddha, the Blessed One, only relied on the four meditations to realize the unsurpassed perfect enlightenment. Because everything is held by the four meditations through abandoning the antidote to the peak of existence. Therefore, it is said to be the practice of exhausting the defilements in samadhi. The word "say" is to express other intentions. The so-called "because it is based on immeasurable sentient beings" refers to their object of focus.

It is because sentient beings are immeasurable. Indicating a direction is to indicate sentient beings. Others say that they are immeasurable because they accomplish immeasurable merit and because the desirable results are immeasurable. Others say that it is without elaboration, to prevent the elaboration of craving. Why are there only four, no more and no less? It is to counteract harmful thoughts and so on. The sutra says that if you cultivate loving-kindness, practice it, and do it many times, you will abandon harmful thoughts. Compassion will abandon harming. Joy will abandon displeasure. Equanimity will abandon desire and harmful thoughts. Therefore, there are only four, no more and no less. Among them, those who have harmful thoughts are those who desire to ripen all sentient beings, and with anger, they use their hands, clubs, sticks, etc. to oppress sentient beings in various ways, focusing on the object of harm, not delighting in the cause of pure dharmas, extremely craving the afflicted dharmas of the objects of sensual pleasures, and are characterized by knowing little contentment. The antidote to desire for color is said to be ugliness, which is to turn away by focusing on putrefaction, redness, and so on. The antidote to sexual desire is said to be equanimity, because sexual desire is preceded by the imputation of loveliness to sentient beings, while equanimity does not touch the signs of loveliness and unloveliness, but only sentient beings. Therefore, the Vaibhashikas say that the antidote to sexual desire is equanimity. Here it is said extensively that sexual desire arises through color, shape, reverence, and touch. Ugliness also enters in a way that refutes it, and it should be the antidote to sexual desire. Equanimity does not distinguish between parents, children, etc., and only grasps sentient beings, therefore it is the antidote to that desire.
