It is done by the path. It is not the end, but in the desire realm, what arises from the mind, what arises from thought, especially what arises from meditation. Furthermore, the extensive explanation of "four meditations" is as follows: If one completely relies on and becomes accustomed to meditation three times, then one will abide in bliss in this very life. If one completely relies on and becomes accustomed to meditation many times, then the clairvoyance of the divine eye will become visible. If one completely relies on and becomes accustomed to meditation many times, then one will be able to fully discern with wisdom. If one completely relies on and becomes accustomed to meditation many times, then one will become free from outflows, which refers to the distinctions of the first dhyana and so on. Because that is the first, "others and other things" refers to the second dhyana and so on. Here, one will also abide in bliss in the next life. For example, it is said in the sutra: 'Bhikkhu, what is the difference, thought, or distinction between a stable one who experiences joy and bliss born from solitude, and those of the Brahma race who are born there?' Because it was said thus. Therefore, why is it only said that one abides in bliss in this very life? Because abiding in bliss in the next life is uncertain, it is said thus. All Buddhas and so on abide in bliss in this very life, but it is not certain that all abide in bliss in the next life. Why? Because for those who have completely declined, arisen upwards, and completely passed into nirvana, that is not the case. Therefore, only abiding in bliss in this very life is spoken of, not abiding in bliss in the next life. Others say that in order to turn those who are attached to this very life away from the desire for sensual pleasures and connect them with the bliss of meditation, because the bliss of the next life depends on this very life. They say that it is also said in the sutra: 'Because one previously entered into samadhi, one is born there.' This is said in terms of the proximity concentration of meditation. The phrase 'one will abide in bliss in this very life' means that one has attained the actual practice of proximity concentration.

What I have not found is like what is called "the body of a bubble." Furthermore, even though all meditations are indeed dwelling in happiness in the present dharma, why is it said that only the first is from nothing? Because the yogi has transcended the faultless desire realm, therefore the happiness there particularly satisfies the mind, just as someone who is very tired and thirsty in the wilderness is satisfied by muddy water. Also, because the happiness of all noble paths is an object of focus, here there are all the things that are in accordance with the aspects of enlightenment, as well as the nine complete knowledges, and the four fruitional paths gathered by the fruit in the manner of virtuous conduct, and also the antidotes to the three realms, so it is said that it is dwelling in happiness in the present dharma. Some say: This teacher is close to himself. The Bodhisattva generated the first worldly meditation under the Jambudvipa tree, like a meditation without outflows, and that is also because he enters the state of happiness in common with all sentient beings, so only the first is spoken of. It is not because of other reasons that it is said to dwell in the later meditations. It is said in the sutra, "The eye's direct perception desires to see change." Here, the cause is established by the effect. The direct perception of the divine eye is not the practice of meditation. What is it then? It is the fruit of practicing meditation. It is called knowing change and seeing change. Among them, knowing change is the wisdom that is equally possessed with consciousness, because it can distinguish and think, "These sentient beings have evil deeds of the body," and so on. Seeing change is equally possessed with eye consciousness, because there is no distinguishing thought. Others say: The direct perception of the divine eye is the actual ground of other meditations, therefore it is for observing the faults in the meditations. Seeing by the function of seeing, and seeing by the nature of knowing, is seeing by knowing, and also seeing by the eye sense. Knowing is mentioned for that difference. Or, in order to ascertain that it is both knowing and seeing, for knowing, for seeing, and for seeing, knowing and seeing, ascertaining knowing and seeing.
