The term "ground" refers to the sequel to the third and fourth dhyanas, and the sequel to the sphere of infinite space. The reason for saying "because its support and object are the lower ground" is that in order to know the Dharma, it relies on the desire realm, and because the object is the desire realm, after knowing the Dharma, it will not enter the formless samadhi. Because the lower ground itself does not arise in the upper ground, after that, it will enter the formless samadhi. Merely relying on the lower ground, one will not be born here. Those who rely on the two aspects of subsequent knowledge and focus on the upper realm, therefore, it is not contradictory for those born here to enter the formless samadhi after subsequent knowledge. The term "afflictions of one's own ground" means that after the purity of the first dhyana, seven will arise, namely the three of one's own ground: unpolluted, pure, and afflicted, as well as the pure and unpolluted of the second and third dhyana grounds. Similarly, after the purity of the sphere of nothingness, there will be eight. After the second dhyana, there are nine. After the sphere of infinite consciousness, there are ten. Similarly, after dhyana and other formless states, there are eleven. The statement "no afflicted being is born after the unpolluted" means that it is extremely contradictory to the entry of afflictions. Furthermore, if it is said that even the pure do not arise after all, what need is there to mention the unpolluted? Therefore, it is explained that there are four types of purity. The term "pure and afflicted of one's own ground" means that it is not the unpolluted of one's own ground, nor is it the pure or afflicted of the upper ground. The lower ground is only the pure, not the afflicted, nor the unpolluted. The term "tormented by afflictions" means that the ground is suppressed by afflictions. The term "it is transformed from virtue" means that if someone does evil but considers it the correct view, then that is only virtue, not affliction. The statement "the unpolluted never arises after the afflicted in any way" means that it is neither one's own ground nor the lower ground.

To. When elaborating on "at the time of death," "at the time of death" refers to the state of existence at the time of death. Because it is kept intact, there is the possibility of generating pure meditative concentration. The virtue attained through being born into pure meditative concentration, which is maintaining equanimity, is also called pure meditative concentration. Immediately following that, the mind that connects the continuity of oneself, those above, and those below, will give rise to afflictions. Because dying with a virtuous mind does not harm the connection of any continuity. Therefore, those who are free from attachment and those who are not free from attachment will engage in virtuous minds, and therefore, it is said that after the purity attained by birth, all afflictions arise. It is said, "It is not a higher ground" because those who are free from attachment in the lower ground have already arisen, and therefore they are not free from attachment from their own ground. The peak of existence has three aspects, except for those that are in accordance with the special aspects. At the peak of existence, there are those that are in accordance with the decisive aspect that is in accordance with the path of seeing, and those that are in accordance with the decisive aspect that is in accordance with the uncontaminated, but not those that are in accordance with the special aspects, because there is no other above. Being in accordance with the aspect of decline means being in accordance with the arising of afflictions. From that, afflictions will definitely arise, but it is not so. Likewise, it should be stated appropriately for other situations as well. Others say: That which is completely lost from where it dwells is in accordance with the aspect of decline, but not in accordance with the aspect of abiding. That which does not decline and does not increase where it dwells is in accordance with the special aspect. Because there are other special qualities, it is in accordance with the decisive aspect, which leads to the manifestation of the noble path. Others say that solitude is in accordance with the decisive aspect, which leads to entering into certainty. This special quality, which leads to the manifestation of the noble path, is all in accordance with the decisive aspect. Because, immediately following that, it is worldly.
