Because there are no two hands. For the second, which is non-afflictive, there is joy. If asked how to understand that it is not so for the first? Because it is said to arise from solitude. Because of being completely deluded by the pleasure of afflictions, that is, because of being deluded, for those who are completely deluded by the pleasure of afflictions, there is no mindfulness and awareness. For the afflictive, because mindfulness is forgetfulness and wisdom is not awareness, it is because of entering for the sake of others. Because it is a place of many virtues, equanimity is also not the third of the afflictive, therefore that is the second limb. Because his mindfulness and wisdom lack awareness and equanimity. If asked why, if there is no equanimity, it is not prevented? Because it is prevented in the fourth of the afflictive, therefore it will also be known from the meaning that it is also prevented in the third. Because of being defiled by afflictions. To what is it said to be defiled? Because it is the equanimity of suffering, it is a place of many virtues, so there is no completely pure equanimity, because afflictions arise universally, so it is universally deluded, therefore its mindfulness is forgetfulness, so there is also no completely pure mindfulness. Like that, it is the limb of the fourth dhyana itself. Some extensively say that extreme pliancy is equanimity. Some also consider joy and faith and mindfulness and awareness as limbs for the afflictive, according to those people's views, the first and third are four limbs, and the second and fourth are three limbs. The three dhyanas are because they have faults. To say that it is like this, because the word "is", it is also with limbs, in order to summarize the previous reasoning, so the word "is" is said. To say that there are four such as happiness, if asked how the four such as happiness are faults of dhyana? Because the cause of suffering, the unpleasant body, is abandoned. In the first dhyana there is the cause of suffering, unpleasantness, so suffering and unpleasantness are faults themselves. For those who have manifested happiness and pleasure. In that way, conception and analysis.

And joy and happiness, etc., means possessing these and similar (qualities). If asked, what reason is there to consider that to be its fault? The answer is, it is not because of others, but because only those four are unwavering. The fourth dhyana is unwavering because it is liberated from the eight faults. Others say that what is stated in the sutras is with hidden meaning, while the Abhidharma speaks from the perspective of characteristics. Like this, because of abandoning suffering and happiness, and because of abandoning pleasure and delight, one approaches and dwells in the first dhyana. Therefore, if asked, why? The answer is, only seeking, examining, and pleasure are faults. If asked, what are seeking and examining? The answer is, even if yogis do not want it, the mind clearly flows to other objects and aspects, and that is the fault of seeking and examining. Because the effort of seeking, examining, joy, and happiness distracts the mind, it is called wavering. The "happiness of the three aggregates of consciousness" means that because it has no smell or taste, there is no consciousness of the nose and tongue. The name "without other aggregates of consciousness" means that there is no consciousness of the eye, etc. If there are none of these, there is no seeking or examining, because they are together with seeking and examining. If it is said that there are detailed explanations in the second dhyana, etc. If asked, in the second dhyana, etc., is there a mind that takes the birthplaces of form, sound, and touch as objects, and can evoke various expressions? The answer is, those who are born there also do not have the three aggregates of consciousness and seeking and examining. One's own ground is also not there. The name "like a manifested mind" means that just as those born in the higher ground manifest the manifested mind of the lower ground, those born in the second dhyana, etc., if they think that they take form, sound, and touch as objects, and want to evoke various expressions, then they will manifest the eye consciousness, etc., of the first dhyana ground, and evoke various expressions. Virtue, etc.
