The term "ground," and so forth, encompasses both the uncontaminated and the contaminated. "To be free from desire from a lower ground" means, for example, to be free from desire from the desire realm, from the first dhyana up to the sphere of nothingness, and from being free from desire up to the peak of existence. "To be born in a lower ground" means, for example, to die from the peak of existence and be born in the sphere of nothingness, up to the point of attaining (dhyana) when born in the first dhyana. Similarly, it should also be said that dying from the sphere of nothingness, and so forth, and being born in a lower ground. "Except for the peak of existence" means that it can only be attained from being free from desire from a lower ground, but not from being born in a lower ground, because there is nothing else above that. This is said after contemplating the essence of dhyana and the formless realms, but the preparatory stage is in accordance with this, and even those who have not abandoned desire can attain it through practice. Why is it said "not in accordance"? Is it sufficient to simply say "in the birth of freedom from desire"? If so, then why is it particularly emphasized as "not in accordance"? Because those who are in accordance with purity can also attain, through practice, that which is in accordance with the decisive aspect of the pure essence of dhyana or the formless realms, and from deterioration, that which is in accordance with the aspect of deterioration. Thus, abandoning from freedom from desire, one attains dhyana or the formless realm that is in accordance with the aspect of deterioration, or from completely deteriorating from freedom from desire, and those who are in accordance with this can also attain it. "Therefore" means that because from complete deterioration, one attains that which is in accordance with the aspect of deterioration. Similarly, "from complete deterioration and arising" means, can virtue be attained from complete deterioration, or is there something that is abandoned from complete deterioration? Can pure dhyana be attained from arising, or is there something that is abandoned from arising? "Is it abandoned by being free from desire from the world of Brahma?" means that because from being free from desire from the world of Brahma, the first dhyana that is in accordance with the aspect of deterioration is in accordance with afflictions. Therefore, it is abandoned like the afflictions of that ground. From the freedom from desire of that ground...

Having completely deteriorated, one obtains it again as the afflictions of that place. In the (text), the saying "born from the world of Brahma" is in accordance with the aspect of deterioration, therefore, one also obtains the first dhyana in three places. Thus, for the sake of undifferentiated speech, one should also explain the second dhyana and so on as appropriate. From the peak of existence, there is no saying of "born in the peak of existence," therefore, the uncontaminated is obtained from detachment from desire in dhyana or the formless realm; one obtains it in one who does not possess that. In one who possesses that, one also obtains it from the knowledge of the exhaustion of the uncontaminated, one obtains the non-returner who has not yet obtained it. From the attainment of the faculties, only the faithful follower who possesses the uncontaminated obtains it by seeing, and having obtained it, one obtains the learner who has not previously obtained it. Thus, the time-liberated one also obtains the non-returner in the unwavering contemplation. The saying of entering into certainty is widely spread, but if one first enters into certainty with detachment from desire, one does not obtain the uncontaminated at the very beginning. If one says otherwise, it is definitely not otherwise because the gradual one does not obtain it; the gradual one relies on the unimpeded and enters into certainty, therefore, one does not obtain the actual practice of that dhyana, the uncontaminated. The noble one will definitely be able to obtain it by detachment from desire. Or, one will definitely be able to obtain it, as it is said. Because the afflicted one deteriorates and arises. In the (text), it says that the first dhyana of the afflicted one, having abandoned it from detachment from desire, also from that one obtains it from the complete deterioration of detachment from desire. From the second dhyana and so on, up to being born in the first dhyana, one obtains the first dhyana of the afflicted one. Thus, one should also explain it appropriately for others. The peak of existence of the afflicted one is only obtained from the complete deterioration of detachment from desire from that, not from birth. The place of the second and third dhyanas should be combined with the pure one and the uncontaminated one. The uncontaminated one does not arise from the afflicted one, because they are extremely incompatible. The samadhi of sudden transcendence, because it is a single transcendence, the one above the third dhyana does not arise. Dhyana and the formless realm, after the others, one should also add ten things, as it is said.
