First is the food born of contact, third is the food of intention, and fourth is the food born of consciousness. Since it is said that "beings dwell" without distinction, it follows that food that is swallowed, like contact, should also be present in all places. If it is thought that the four foods are what cause beings to arise and dwell, is there a special distinction in this general indication? "Transcending the heavens" and so on will be explained in detail. If that is the case, then there would also be form in the formless realms, because there is a special distinction. What shows the special distinction is that the formless realms must arise from the form realms. If there were form in the samadhi and birth of the formless realms, then the form would inevitably gather its own form aggregates. In this way, one would not completely transcend the perception of form, they would not necessarily arise from the form realms, and they would not transcend the form realms. If there is form, then those born there cannot be called formless, so it can be understood that there is form there. The lower form belonging to the formless realm is coarse, and the conduct in the formless realm is subtle. Therefore, considering the coarse form, it is said that "the formless realms necessarily arise from the form realms," and "which are the liberations of the formless realms" and so on are explained in detail. If so, then it is the same with swallowed food. Saying "swallowing food, transcending the heavens," etc., refers to the coarse swallowed food of the lower realms, not the subtle parts there. If it is thought that the coarse form aggregates of the lower realms necessarily produce the formless realms, then "the formless realms" etc. are acceptable. If this is the case, then the dhyanas etc. will also be explained in detail, such as the first dhyana necessarily arising from the coarse form aggregates of the desire realm, and similarly, the fourth dhyana also arising from the coarse form aggregates of the third dhyana, thus becoming the formless realm. That is in relation to the upper realm.

If it is said to be coarse, then in that case, only the peak of existence would be formless. If it is said that because the form of one's own realm exists, it must also arise from the form of the lower realm, so it is said that the formless realms must arise, then why is it not said that feeling, etc., must arise from the earth? Those, like the form of the lower realm of earth, also necessarily arise from feeling, etc. The word "etc." includes perception, volition, and consciousness. It is not said that it necessarily arises from feeling, etc., just as it necessarily arises from form. Therefore, it is not understood to say that the formless ones are not because they necessarily arise from the form of the lower realm of earth. Therefore, in the widely occurring "beyond the exhaustion of the form," the reason for mentioning "aspect" is to include all forms, whether internal or external, coarse or subtle, inferior or superior, etc., because all those forms are transcended, because there is no complete form in equipoise and arising. The reason for saying that it is not from the aspect of feeling, etc., is that in the equipoise and arising of the formless realm, there may be feeling that is neither pleasant nor painful. The word "etc." should be spoken up to consciousness. Therefore, it is said that it necessarily arises from forms, but it is not said that it necessarily arises from feeling, etc. If the formless realms necessarily arise from form, then, therefore, it would follow that conditioned phenomena arise from conditioned phenomena, and if that is the case, it contradicts the sutra, because the sutra says, "That is not to say that conditioned phenomena arise from conditioned phenomena." Therefore, it is said in detail that the reason why conditioned phenomena do not arise from conditioned phenomena is that the desire realm's conditioned phenomena or the form realm's conditioned phenomena, or the formless realm's conditioned phenomena themselves, do not arise from the desire realm's conditioned phenomena or the form realm's conditioned phenomena or the formless realm's conditioned phenomena themselves, so it is said that way, but not because the upper realm's conditioned phenomena do not arise from the lower realm's conditioned phenomena.
