The so-called "having all four correct knowledges" is because it is the fruit of the one path. If it is not fully possessed, it cannot be obtained. The so-called "incomplete, it is not obtained" means that none of the individual correct knowledges can be obtained incompletely. These also arise in dependence on having been skilled in letters and meanings in other lifetimes. The so-called "whoever has one, undoubtedly has all" is because it is the fruit of the one path. If it is not fully possessed, it cannot be obtained. It is like the lineage of the noble ones abiding in the lineage of the noble ones. Others say that the incomplete individual correct knowledges do not obtain the sound of obtaining correct knowledge. That which has no obstruction to the vow of definite words and meanings is correct knowledge. The so-called "these are obtained through the power of the ultimate meditation" means that qualities such as freedom from afflictions are obtained by generating the ultimate fourth dhyana, but not otherwise. The so-called "the ultimate itself" refers to that fourth dhyana, which is different from freedom from afflictions and so on, and which arises from combination, and is the great of the great. The so-called "it is obtained through its power" means through the power of the ultimate. That is not the place of the fourth dhyana, because there is no conceptualization there, and because the mind with conceptualization causes it to arise completely. The qualities such as freedom from afflictions are encompassed by the ultimate meditation, and therefore it is called its nature. Also, because it is not its nature. The so-called "is the perfection of increase" means thinking that it is not everything. The so-called "incompatible" refers to the realm of neither perception nor non-perception, from the realm of nothingness. From there to the realm of infinite consciousness. Similarly, until the enjoyment of the benefits of desire, the mind increases to the extreme. How are the Hearers and so on perfect in relation to individuals? It means that the meaning of this increase, which is to become excellent, is obtained. The so-called "like the four alternatives" means that just as there are four modes, so too the ultimate is the perfection of the mode, which is the mode of increase that cannot be surpassed.

That is the meaning. Some think that compassion itself is without affliction. Because compassion possesses the nature of being without affliction, it enters even into fearful states, therefore it is said that the nature of compassion is without affliction. However, this is not entirely certain. Those who single-mindedly focus on the benefit of others, although they prevent the arising of afflictions in others, they also accomplish this through the path of peace. If it is said, how can the Tathagata abide in a state without affliction, since afflictions arise in the continuum of the Blessed One, such as Angulimala and others? This fault does not hold, because those who possess great compassion and wish to permanently uproot the afflictions of others sometimes remain neutral towards the arising of afflictions. That is, even without affliction, one can generate knowledge through aspiration. If so, then it is so, if I do not do this. Similarly, generating affliction, doing it that way, will not become generating affliction. Even if one cannot generate a state without affliction, one can generate knowledge through aspiration. Some say that generating knowledge through aspiration is also without affliction, and that being without affliction and knowledge generated through aspiration mutually encompass each other. That is, being without affliction is to pacify the afflictions of others in a different way, without any other way, while knowledge generated through aspiration is to enter into samadhi after aspiring, thinking, 'I shall know this and that meaning,' and after rising from that samadhi, to understand the meaning and also to express it. "Other than the Buddha" refers to the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas. "Because he is the lord of all dharmas" means that he has power over all dharmas. "It depends only on intention" means, in detail, that it does not arise from combination as described above. Some say that virtue and non-virtue also depend only on intention, because one can control whatever one wishes. Regarding "and also with ordinary beings," the word "also" refers to also including the Shravakas and others. The superknowledge that is to manifest the realm of miracles means that through this
