It is said that fully understanding the realization of the hesitant is like being skilled in the combination of strength and hesitation, which is fearlessness. Others say that strength is courage itself, and fearlessness is steadfastness itself. This itself is a different action. The meaning of strength is the meaning of accomplishing the action that is manifestly desired. The meaning of fearlessness is the meaning of not shrinking back. The so-called "three mindfulnesses" are other than those included in the aspects of enlightenment. The so-called "from the difference of retinue" means from the particularity of the retinue. The so-called "as it appears in the sutra" means: Monks, these three are mindfulnesses, which are relied upon by the noble ones, and if the noble ones rely on them, they should be shown to the sangha. Which three? Monks, here, the teacher, being compassionate, hopeful, wishing for benefit, wishing for good, endowed with compassion, teaches the Dharma to the hearers, saying, "This is beneficial to you, this is comfortable to you, this is beneficial and comfortable to you." Those hearers listen to him, give ear, apply their minds to all knowledge, and practice the Dharma in accordance with the Dharma, without contradicting the teacher's teachings. In that case, they will not make the Tathagata's mind rejoice, nor will they be comfortable, nor will they be pleased. The Tathagata abides in equanimity with mindfulness and awareness. This is the first mindfulness that is relied upon by the noble ones, and if the noble ones rely on them, it should be shown to the sangha. Furthermore, monks, "compassionate" is as before. Conversely, those hearers do not listen to him, which is also as before. In that case, they will not make the Tathagata completely distressed, nor will they be impatient, nor will they be angry, nor will they be displeased. The Tathagata abides in equanimity with mindfulness and awareness. This is the second mindfulness. Furthermore, monks, this teacher is "compassionate" as before. Some hearers listen to him, give ear.

It can make the mind of omniscience abide closely, and it can make one practice the Dharma that is in accordance with the Dharma. It can make one not contradict the teachings of the Teacher. If some do not listen, do not pay attention, and even contradict the teachings of the Teacher, then he will not please the Tathagata. It is also not a happy mind, nor is it a pleasant mind, nor is it complete torment, nor is it unbearable, nor does he have anger. To this, the Tathagata abides in equanimity with mindfulness and awareness. This is what those who rely on the noble ones rely on. If one relies on those noble ones, then the third mindfulness close abiding that is suitable for proclaiming to the Sangha will arise. Furthermore, the so-called three natures of mindfulness and awareness are the nature of mindfulness and the nature of awareness. That is, what is said to abide in equanimity with mindfulness and awareness. Awareness is also wisdom itself. When is it said that "even the Shravakas" etc. are spoken of extensively? It is thinking that it is for the sake of abandoning afflictions. The so-called "for the sake of abandoning habits and aggregates" means that the Bhagavan has abandoned the subsequent attachments and the habits of anger, etc., but the Shravakas have not. What is the so-called habit? It is the difference in ability that is the cause of the movement and change of body and speech that is determined by the previous practice of afflictions, this is the habit. Or, "whose are the Shravakas" means that the Shravakas belong to the Buddha Bhagavan, and not to others, because they have renounced the world under the authority of the Buddha Bhagavan. The so-called "for both respectful listening and disrespectful listening" means for both respectful listening and disrespectful listening, that is, for those who listen respectfully and those who do not listen respectfully, for both of these. The so-called "it does not occur only for him" means only for those whose Shravakas belong to, that is, for him. The so-called "that" means that the non-arising of happiness of mind, etc., is rare. The so-called "if it is not so" means that if it is not the nature of non-attachment, or if it is not the nature of uncontaminated wisdom, then it will not be possible to focus on all sentient beings, and like compassion, it will have the aspect of three kinds of suffering.
