Also, it is said, "Even the supramundane," because the supramundane is the antidote to itself and the lower and upper grounds. It is said, "The attainment of separation arises in two ways," because in each arising, the activity performed is uncommon; here, the activity performed is the abandonment of afflictions. Also, it is said, "Even the supramundane," here it is the agent; the scholar's Good Assembly says, because the agent is the same and extremely stable. For example, when a worldly person with the same activity, a noble one, is separated from desire, there are two kinds of attainment of separation, similarly, when the supramundane is separated from desire, there are also two kinds of attainment of separation. Because the activity is the same, therefore, when a noble one realizes separation from desire from any of the eight grounds, he obtains the non-returner fruit. Thus, it is not so in the peak of existence. Because for him, obtaining the uncommon future of the world is the activity of the supramundane path. Therefore, from separation from desire in the peak of existence, only the attainment of separation of the supramundane is reasonable. Here, some also explain the cause as other. If it is said to be the noble path, because there is no worldly path for him, this shows that if there is no worldly attainment of separation. It is said, "Relying on meditation," it is said to obtain worldly meditation, and only relying on the nature of meditation, one can transform the faculties. Here, saying "relying on meditation" is only an example, because it is said that the trainee relies on the six grounds.

It is also like that. The so-called "may also not possess the liberation from the afflictions of the higher grounds" refers to the fact that from the first dhyana upwards in the desire realm, up to the sphere of nothingness, one may not possess the liberation from the afflictions of those grounds. Because of the aggregation of the path of special fruition, one relinquishes the transference of faculties like the remaining paths. The so-called "if one relinquishes it" refers to relinquishing the possession of the liberation from the afflictions of the higher grounds. The so-called "may also possess those afflictions" refers to those of the higher grounds. It is said in the sutra, "Because of the peak of existence, one is liberated from karma, and like being born above, one does not possess." Although there is no word "its," whatever noble path it may be, relying on the dhyana that is separated from attachment to the sphere of nothingness, one transfers the faculties, but one will not possess those (afflictions). Like the afflictions of the higher grounds, such as the peak of existence, one transfers the faculties that are separated from attachment in eight ways, but those eight (faculties) do not possess worldly liberation attainment, because the worldly path does not have the antidote to the peak of existence. Even if one relinquishes the attainment of non-leaking liberation through the transference of faculties, one will not possess those afflictions, just as ordinary beings are born above the first dhyana. The attainment of liberation from the afflictions that operate in the desire realm is included in the first dhyana, because it is its ground. It is not its antidote, because the attainment of liberation from the afflictions that belong to the desire realm and are born there will completely disappear. Therefore, it is said that one is born above the first dhyana. Even if a noble one is born above, he also possesses the attainment of non-leaking liberation, so there is no fault of being associated with the afflictions that belong to the desire realm. In order to distinguish this, it is said that an ordinary being, that is, in order to relinquish the attainment of liberation from the afflictions that operate in the desire realm. That attainment is included in the first dhyana, so when one is born in the second dhyana and so on, one does not completely relinquish the merit of the first dhyana like all afflictions. The teacher Vasubandhu believes that even they are concerned with the afflictions that operate in the desire realm.
