The so-called "tsampa" is like saying, "Those who uphold discipline, listen, think, and meditate, should diligently apply themselves to cultivation." Starting from here, "the forbearance of Dharma, the undefiled Dharma," refers to those who are in accordance with the determination division, and also have forbearance towards the Dharma, therefore the undefiled is mentioned. In a way that was not present before, here, because of forbearance towards suffering and so on, or because of forbearance towards objects not seen before, the first moment of the undefiled is called forbearance. The so-called "distinguishing by homogeneous cause" refers to the homogeneous cause of Dharma-wisdom. Therefore, in order to distinguish it from the forbearance that corresponds to the determination division, it is called Dharma-wisdom forbearance. The so-called "like a tree of flowers and fruits" is like a tree for the sake of flowers is a flower tree, and a tree for the sake of fruits is a fruit tree. The teacher Subdued says that the forbearance corresponding to the determination division is also included here, so he says. Because it is said that immediately after the excellence of the Dharma, one enters into certainty, and entering into certainty also shows that one transcends the stage of ordinary beings, the arising of defiled forbearance is not the object here, if asked. This is not the case, because in the time of expression, the difference of the homogeneous cause of Dharma-wisdom forbearance is to know the nature of the undefiled. If it is not so, in the time of expression, saying forbearance will also include the forbearance corresponding to the determination division. If you ask, from where is the homogeneous cause of Dharma-wisdom, as mentioned before, known? Because it is the nature of undefiled forbearance, and it is the nature of what arose earlier. If you say that the nature of the undefiled is unreasonable, because it shows mutual dependence. This is also not right, because when that arises, it shows that the karma of merely being an ordinary being has already been transcended. If you ask, the undefiled nature of Dharma-wisdom that was spoken of has not been established. This is also unreasonable, because it is the homogeneous cause of Dharma-wisdom forbearance, it is unreasonable for the homogeneous cause of the undefiled to become defiled. To this, some others think that from beginningless time, the illusion of seeing oneself as the self, and the knowable that has become suffering, not seen before.

It is said that patience is through the aspect of acceptance as a phenomenon. If it is said that in what is called the patience of knowing the Dharma of suffering, the word "knowing" is meaningless, then it is better to have the previous combination of words. What is called "that nature" is patience. What is called "reality" is stated in the Nirvana Sutra: "What is reality? It is the complete cutting off and abandonment of desire, this is reality." There, "that" refers to reality. What is called "one existence" is that one will enter into peace without being bound by seven existences. What is called "manifestation in that" is one existence. Again, what manifests in that? The answer is obtaining it. If it arises, one will definitely obtain reality, so it is called entering into certainty. Others say that because one obtains the nature that is inseparable from the characteristic of truth, it is called the patience of knowing the Dharma of suffering. Like a lamp and birth, there are three that are related to future actions: birth, lamp, and the patience of knowing the Dharma of suffering. Just as a lamp that is arising dispels darkness and a lamp that is extinguishing burns the wick and oil, so too, when the patience of knowing the Dharma of suffering arises, it abandons the state of an ordinary being, and when it ceases, it abandons the ten subtle defilements. Others say that light and touch, etc., because one of its powers cannot do two things at the same time, this analogy is not appropriate. Although arising and ceasing are not the same, just like the power it possesses, there is difference and non-oneness, so it can be inferred as different. Therefore, because the power possessed by ceasing and arising is acknowledged, the existence of arising is possible. As it is said, even if it is the same, but because the substances of the aggregates such as lamps are different, the powers are also different, similarly, the same is different in the stage of substance, so the powers are different. In this way, when arising, patience can become the power to reduce the state of an ordinary being. When ceasing, does it reduce the ten defilements? The answer is that this is also unreasonable, because it exists as an imputation, and because there is no result of aggregation, there is no power. Arising is like what is happening now, because it is not existent in terms of substance, it is not the same, the times are different.
