It is for the purpose of knowing other things. The term "afflicted" is to exclude what is virtuous and unconditioned and undeclared. The term "mental factor" is to exclude what is non-form. The term "aggregate of formations" is to exclude feelings, perceptions, and so on. These are also called near afflictions, because they are similar to the afflictions of the three causes, that is, in terms of correspondence, being included in one aggregate, and their defilement. But they are not called afflictions, because the afflictions themselves are not complete. What is meant by "arising from subtle places" refers to displeasure, flattery, discouragement, delusion, insufficient food warmth, and various different discriminations. Here, "completely bound and included by the defilement of afflictions" means included by complete binding and included by the defilement of afflictions. Therefore, these are called completely bound because they are bound in the prison of existence. Or, why must the latter also correspond to doubt, pleasure, and joy in the form realm? Because it is different from the joy in the desire realm, the afflictions of the place free from desire do not necessarily appear in the form of aversion. Doubt is also related to them and seeking pleasure there. Just as here, those who have attained the position of desire, even when tired, give rise to the idea of happiness. And other form realm practitioners completely pacify pleasure, joy, and doubt. If these exist, they will abide in bad behavior, so they are completely bound. What is meant by "inner turmoil of the mind" refers to the mental anguish that is preceded by the inability to tolerate the perfection of others. What is meant by stinginess refers to the thought that it should not flow from oneself to others. Its essence is stinginess itself. What is meant by "opposed to the giving of Dharma, wealth, and the wise" refers to being opposed to the giving of Dharma, being opposed to the giving of wealth, and being opposed to the giving of the wise.

Regarding the complete grasping of the mind, the complete grasping of the mind is the state of wanting to not be separated from things, with manifest attachment to things as a precursor. Others say that because it scatters, it is stinginess. Always holding on to "do not lose from those that have been said," this scattering is stinginess. If it is said that sleep is the manifest gathering of the mind, then it would excessively include meditative absorption as well. Therefore, it is said, "cannot truly grasp the body." That is only completely entangled by afflictions, and is not virtuous or unspecified. Regret is also only completely entangled by afflictions, and is not virtuous. Regarding "other than harmful intent and malice," harboring hatred towards sentient beings with the intention of "may these sentient beings be killed, bound, destroyed, or impoverished," is harmful intent. Entering the path of enticing, frightening, beating, and binding, etc., is malice. Anger is different from those two, and is tormenting both sentient and non-sentient beings, such as abandoning monks who possess discipline and yoga. Regarding "concealing is covering up faults," faults are those that should be reproached, such as the decline of discipline, conduct, and livelihood. Covering up is the cause of wanting to hide those, meaning placing sins within and not making them appear outwardly. Regarding "in order, it is of those who know and those who do not know," for those who know, such as kings, it is the similar cause of desire, thinking "I will lose gain and respect." For those who do not know, it is the similar cause of ignorance, initially not regarding karma as one's own, and not confessing to others in order to purify it. Its characteristic should be stated: because the mind is firmly bound by gain, respect, and fame, one does not reveal one's own misdeeds. The mind that is closely afflicted by the similar cause of desire, craving, and delusion is called concealing. Shamelessness is ignorance.

What is the corresponding cause? It is because one does not see the downfall of being shameless. Regret arises from doubt, which is said to be afflicted. Among them, the cause is deceiving others. It means that with the thought of deceiving others, it becomes the cause of showing falsehood, is subdued by correct samadhi, and the mind is not tranquil, which is illusion. The world engages in the means of deceiving others in order to accomplish its own purpose. The basis of illusion, the actions of body and speech, are called illusion, like magic. Flattery is a crooked mind, meaning that flattery is a crooked mind that uses the thoughts of oneself and others as a means of concealing and obscuring them. What is the difference between illusion and flattery? It is illusion because it deceives others, and it is flattery because it conceals the mind of one's own continuum. From these, the differences in the activities of corresponding causes will also be explained. Pride has already been discussed, meaning that others say that pride is the mental state arising from attachment to youth, health, and livelihood, etc. Others say that pride is the mind that rejoices in the continuity of conditioned phenomena, arises in oneself without regard for others, and precedes it. Holding firmly to things that are blameworthy means showing that these are difficult to grasp but are grasped because of what exists. Others say that only from others will it definitely arise, and it is not abandoned, which is anger and resentment. The difference between anger and resentment should be explained, meaning that what is fierce and dwells briefly is anger, and what is firm and dwells briefly is resentment. Therefore, its characteristics should be explained, meaning that dwelling in anger, discriminating with the mind connected to its object and following it, is called resentment. Harm is contempt, meaning that the mind that is close to affliction, which is the near cause of accomplishing harm to others and is subdued by compassion, is harm. It means that because it is associated with two kinds of afflictions and similarities, it is the afflictions to be abandoned by seeing and meditating.
