The so-called "is" means: it is not that the sound that was previously produced does not exist, but that the mind arises with the thought that it does not exist by grasping the present sound. The so-called "not produced now" means that one thinks, "This is not produced now," and in this way, the thought that it does not exist arises in it. Moreover, it is not focused on non-existence. The so-called "because it is one" means: if only that which is in the future is what is produced now, then how can it be said that it is not produced now? Even if it is produced now, it does not exist in the future, so there will also be the thought that it does not exist, because there is no difference. Or, what is the difference? It means: in the state of being produced now, whatever does not exist is called non-existent in what is produced now. The so-called "it is established as produced from not being produced" means: from not being produced in the future state, it is produced in the state of being produced now. The so-called "both existence and non-existence" means: in the state of being produced now, existence is the object, and in the future state, non-existence is the object. If non-existence is the object, then how can the saying "Bodhisattva" be explained? "What is non-existent in the world" will be explained in detail, from which it can be excluded that its object itself is non-existent. The so-called "one with arrogance" will be explained in detail, here the meaning of the sutra is: for those who have not completely purified their samadhi, although there is no appearance, in the state of practice, even if there is no appearance of the divine eye, they think they have it, thinking that they are the clear nature of the divine eye's appearance, and only think they have it. The so-called "how can it become discrimination" means to doubt whether it exists or not. If consciousnesses have both existence and non-existence as their objects, then the necessity of observing both is established, but if it is only the object of existence, it will not be established. Or, what is the difference? It means: if they also only see the appearance of existence and not non-existence, then what is the difference between a Bodhisattva and others? This is an example of both existence and non-existence being objects of the mind, for existence, one also knows that it exists, and for non-existence, one also knows that it does not exist. Therefore, saying that "consciousness is focused on existence" is also an unreasonable reason.

Venerable Sangharakshita said: There are two kinds of causes for the arising of wisdom, namely, the real and the imputed. The wisdom that arises without relying on anything is the real. The wisdom that arises relying on something is the imputed. The real also has two aspects: the difference of function and the thing itself. The imputed also has two aspects: taking the real as proximate and taking the imputed as proximate. If, for the object of the imputed, one also apprehends a non-substantial consciousness, then, the imputed objects, such as form, etc., are not objects of proximate apprehension because they are devoid of inherent existence. If this is the case, then consciousness does not have an imputed object, because their proximate apprehension is real. Therefore, for consciousness, the forms, etc., of objects such as pots and cloths, etc., cannot be objects. Because form, etc., are not their aspects, their individual aspects are also not their aspects, so they cannot be extended to form, etc. Merely being a cause cannot be extended to being an object, because all conditions would be extended to being objects. Therefore, generating a consciousness similar to oneself is a cause, and apprehending them themselves is a cause and condition. If it is not so, if one thinks that the object of a consciousness without appearance is another aspect, then, because it is too extreme, one will stray far from the great teachings. Therefore, the consciousness of a man arising in relation to a pillar is solely without an object because it is not apprehending anything other than the pillar, and there is no man there. The meaning of "from the difference of the continuum that precedes them" is that the preceding ones are the fruit of the same cause and the continuum that follows. Saying "difference" is to show the fruit of maturation and the continuum that follows. The so-called "to be explained from the refutation of the assertion of self" is because of the difference of the complete transformation of the continuum, just like seeds and fruits. The past and the future are real, not imputed. The so-called "for them" refers to the fruit. Because without it, there is no existence of it, therefore the existence of the fruit arises.
