If it is thought that it arises, then why is it not thought that consciousness also arises without a basis for the blind and so on? Because there is no special cause. Non-existent things are not included in the six objects, so there is no mind with non-existent things as its object. Therefore, because there is no object, it will not become consciousness. If consciousness is the distinct awareness of individual things, if there is nothing to be aware of, then it cannot be aware of anything, so it will not become consciousness. If there are no self-characteristics and general characteristics, then what should it comprehend and be aware of? "When the fruit arises" This is explained in detail, because after the virtuous and non-virtuous actions have ceased, a long time has passed, and if they have ceased, then they do not exist. If this is the case, because there is no cause, the ripened fruit will not arise. Without a cause, it will not arise, because it would be too extreme. It is necessary to acknowledge this without a doubt, it is said that this statement explains in detail that the sound of the Sarvastivadins is the cause of action. For that very reason, in order to explain that it exists, the Sarvastivadins are mentioned. In order to definitively establish the sound of all times, the sound of all expresses the three times. Other schools say that the unproduced fruit exists, which is spoken of separately. The Sutrantikas only speak of what is currently produced. When dharmas enter into the various times, things change, that is, things of the future and so on change. Here, the future things are abandoned and become present things, and the present things are abandoned and become past things. Things do not become other substances, that is, the self-nature of substances does not change, and things enter into the various times because the self-nature is not confused. Otherwise, it would become other, that is, from the future to the present and so on, and the past. Furthermore, what are the things of the future and so on? From what does it become the past and

It is the difference in the merits of knowing and speaking that arise in the future and present. For example, a golden vessel is itself an example of two things, gold and milk. Thus, it is the nature of a collection of luster and color, etc. Moreover, the reason for speaking of armlets and bracelets, etc., is only that the nature of merit and form changes, but not the color. Similarly, the reasons for speaking of milk, yogurt, and ghee, etc., are that the taste, potency, ripening, and power change, but not the color. The change of nature is that the name is given in dependence on obtaining the entry of nature. For example, in the case of a person, the difference is whether or not one has attained the entry of detachment through the distinction of his own nature. If the future, past, and present do not possess, then the future itself will not arise and will not become the past. Because the past, future, and present do not possess, the future, present, and past will not change. If the present, past, and future do not possess, then the future itself will not become the present, and the present itself will not become the past. Obtaining a state from a state, that is, the future state called the future is neither the present nor the past. Similarly, it should be said of the present and the past. The term "other substance" does not mean through the aspect of other substance, because substances are also different in all three times. This is to speak of names in dependence on the state. Therefore, for example, when mentioning a grain of sand, it is a grain of earth. The space for one is the place for one. The space for a hundred is the place for a hundred. The space for a thousand is the place for a thousand. It is not that the nature changes, but what is it? It is that the name that indicates the number arises differently from the difference and association of the place. The term "other and different" and so on, is said to be other and different in dependence on the former and the latter.
