Because it arises from all things such as experiencing happiness from nothing, it is called universal affliction. The attachment, anger, and pride that arise in the past and present are said to be without distinction, so it should be understood that they are the six aggregates of the sixth consciousness. By "to what thing" it is shown that the objects to be abandoned by seeing suffering, origin, cessation, and path are the three times, and the objects to be cultivated and abandoned. The so-called "that thing" refers to the combination with the thing just mentioned. Because they are afflictions of their own nature, not everything of everything will arise, so it is specifically stated "from what does it arise." The so-called "those of the mind pervade with the future" means that whatever affliction, abandoning the aspect of the past, and abandoning those of the future, therefore it is specifically stated. The so-called "where is that abandoned" refers to all things, because it is possible to arise in those objects of focus, because the realm of the mind is the three times. The so-called "others with their own time" means that the attachment and so on of the fifth consciousness aggregate arise only focusing on their own time, therefore the objects of focus of those of the future are only the future. The objects of focus of the present are the present, and the objects of focus of the past are not the past. Therefore, they only have the objects of focus of their own ground. The so-called "non-arising ones with all" means that among the non-arising dharmas such as attachment and so on of the fifth consciousness aggregate, some have the past as their object of focus, some have the present, and some have the future. Therefore, it is said that they have all. The so-called "the remaining all possess all" refers to those of the past, future, and present. The so-called "possess all" refers to the five kinds of things of the three times. The reason for this is said to be: because it is a universal affliction. They arise from everything of everything, therefore those of the past also possess the things of the past, future, and present that arise. Similarly, those of the future and

Those of such kind also possess past, future, and present entities. If asked whether the past and future exist as substances, whether they exist with their own nature and characteristics like the present, or whether they do not exist, the answer is that, like the present, they do not exist with their own nature. Then, since the future has not yet attained its own nature, and the past has ceased its own nature, why is it said that they exist in all times? If the present itself also exists in the states of the past and future, it would lead to the fault of permanence. The phrase "how with that" refers to the entities and appearances of the past and future. The phrase "by that" refers to the afflictions of the past and future. The phrase "neither existent nor non-existent" means that what does not exist cannot be said to be existent or non-existent, because both are absent. If asked, since they possess the characteristics of conditioned phenomena, will conditioned phenomena become permanent and unchanging? The answer is that the nature of conditioned phenomena changes with time through the characteristics of conditioned phenomena, and those that change with time cannot be permanent. The phrase "manifest and existent" means existing with its own nature, like the present. If asked, why do they assert in this way, is it based on scripture or reasoning, or both? This is the intention of the question. The phrase "because it is said" temporarily refers to relying on scripture, that is, because the scriptures say, "Past form exists, future form exists," therefore the past and future exist. If asked, why is the present not mentioned? The answer is, monks, if the present form did not exist, then noble hearers who possess learning would not enter into it because of disillusionment, detachment, and cessation, because there is no statement that contradicts both. The phrase "relying on the two"
