It is said that "pure is not." Attachment means practicing in the realms of form and formlessness. Ignorance means that everything exists in the realms of form and formlessness, and in the desire realm, it is associated with the view of the perishable aggregate and the view of holding to extremes. Even that which is born from maturation is acceptable, meaning that in the form realm, it is associated with all afflictions, as well as with maturation, conduct, and emanated mind. In the formless realm, it is associated with all afflictions and with the mind of maturation. In the desire realm, it is the nature of the view of the perishable aggregate and the view of holding to extremes, as well as being associated with that which is born from maturation, conduct, crafts, and emanated mind. The meaning of "root" is the meaning of "cause." Unobscured and unstated wisdom can also serve as a cause, so it is also an unstated root. "Root" is understood to mean that which is like the foundation of the earth, becoming a source of growth and expansion. Others say that what is similar to a root is a root, but because this is not virtuous, it is not an unstated root. Some say that there are four unstated roots, which are explained in detail in the Niyoga. Among them, regarding meditation that is dominated by attachment, it refers to meditating on meditation that is associated with savoring flavors, and that is the meditator who is dominated by attachment. The meditator who is dominated by views is the one who relies on meditation to generate views such as discrimination. The meditator who is dominated by pride is the one who thinks that he has attained the four meditations, but other monks have not, and thus becomes arrogant. These are also the states in which afflictions are universally practiced after entering meditation. From the meditator who is dominated by attachment to the meditator who is dominated by pride, what is the meaning? Because this person has the state of meditating on meditation that is dominated by attachment, he is the meditator who is dominated by attachment. Or, he is both dominated by attachment and a meditator, so he is the meditator who is dominated by attachment, which is a synonym for being dominated by attachment. The meditator who is dominated by views and pride
