Regarding what is called "mental consciousness" and so on, because mind is the object of all knowable things. For any realm of phenomena in which the infinite mental consciousness has not arisen or will not arise, whether it is of the three times or timeless, there is nothing at all. The term "infinite" is used because it cannot be completely enumerated. Because acting on one's own self is contradictory, and because the objects are the same, and because it is very close, it is not focused on arising simultaneously with one's own nature. Mentioning "arising simultaneously" also includes being equally possessed. If so, since all transformed realms are objects of selfless wisdom, like the realm of phenomena, will they become dependent? They will not, because they are dependent in relation to their own function, and are established in the same way as that. Mentioning "by the function of one's own object" is because mentioning the object is to eliminate the function of other things such as the basis of equal parts cause. Regarding "forms cease without being seen," the present eye is called cessation because it is manifestly directed towards cessation, because the function of impermanence itself remains. The future is called "will cease" because it has the nature of arising, because it will inevitably cease in the same way as it arises. The term "having and not having consciousness" means that just as some present eyes have consciousness and some do not, so it is also with the unborn dharma. Mind is only the unborn dharma, similar to this, because what arises inevitably grasps the object. In this way, the arising of consciousness without an object does not exist. Regarding "by the function of one's own sense faculty," mentioning the function of the sense faculty is to eliminate the function of equal parts cause and so on. Regarding "smells and so on, which are by one," sometimes when conditions are close, those themselves arise in the objects of others' noses and so on, thereby generating the consciousness of those.

Why are earth and what depends on it, and what is similar to it, not distinguished? Because only the present arising form is seen, not the past, future, and unborn dharmas. Touch is also the same; only the present arising touch is touched, not the past, future, and born dharmas. Therefore, the basis of forms and possessing a basis, and the nature similar to it, are distinguished from the function of the continuum's power. For things called "dharmas," there is no such distinction, because it is an object in the three times and also in what is not time. Why can't it be distinguished without the power of the continuum? How can it be known that these pots are dependent? Therefore, it is said, what is the meaning of "dependent"? Because it makes a basis, it is a basis. Because it exists in this, it is dependent. That is, the senses and objects and various (Tibetan: བཀྟུཾ་, one Tibetan version has བཀྟུཾ་) consciousnesses mutually act as a basis, that is, the meaning of the mutual conformity of the object and the subject, and the object and the object-possessor. Also, because it relies on action, it becomes a basis, that is, whatever the action of something is, it becomes a basis by conforming to it. For example, the action of the eye sense is seeing, and the consciousness of consciousness, and the things of those objects of form abide, like this, others should also be said. It has been said before that doing one's own work is dependent. Or, because the touch of the result is the same, so the basis is the same, it can be connected like this. Like this, the object, sense, and consciousness of touch act as a basis, so it is a basis, because it depends on it. Therefore, because the basis is the same, the basis is the same, that is, the meaning of the same touch. Those touches are mind-born dharmas, because the result is the same, so the things of the cause are the same, that is, the meaning of the same. For those things that are not dependent, those are the dependent ones.
