Because it is necessary to express, it is reasonable that it can exist without senses. Although it is not said to arise depending on necessity, it should be acknowledged that it is reasonable to say that dependent arising depends on the senses. Not only is it necessary, but senses will also manifest without necessity. Just like those things that share the same fate with it, even if they are particularly close, it is thought that it is because of mistaking Sanaalam as the cause of the nose and tongue senses. Because this meaning cannot be explained without an analogy, it is said that it is like those who are destined to die in the womb. The mention of "destined" is because for those who are not sure to die, on the one hand, it is because it is necessary, that is, after birth, it may be possible to see forms and so on. Although there is no necessity, senses will also arise in the realm of form, just like those who are destined to die in the womb. Just as those who are destined to die in the womb are not without cause, in the realm of form, the manifestation of the nose and tongue senses is not without cause, so there are no such senses there. Eyes and so on arise through conforming to the law, while male genitals arise through not conforming to the law. Some people think that it is impossible for the nose and tongue senses to be without cause there. So, what is the cause of the arising of senses? This is what is to be asked. The answer is that it is the difference of karma accompanied by craving for senses, because of clinging to the six places as self, and especially clinging to objects. This is because it is the difference of karma accompanied by craving for the senses that enjoy these objects. Some say that whoever is without craving for objects must also be without craving for senses. Because various objects have been experienced, senses are desired. For example, if someone is without craving for the touch of intercourse, then he is also without craving for male genitals. Therefore, because there is no craving for the nose and tongue senses, there is no difference in the karma that produces these senses there, just like the cause of male genitals. If it is said that even if there is no craving for objects, it does not necessarily mean that there is no craving for senses, then the nose and tongue without cause will not arise there. Therefore, if it is said that it will arise without cause, then how will male genitals arise? If it is said that craving

Because of being free from defilements, because of having causes, it is because of being unbeautiful, but not because of being free from desire. Like the perfectly enlightened Buddha and the wheel-turning king, why would the hidden penis, the horse-like hidden penis, being submerged inside, be unbeautiful? The hidden penis, the horse-like hidden penis, refers to the male organ. Hidden refers to what covers the male organ. Those who have the hidden penis, the horse-like hidden penis, being submerged inside, this is a shortened sentence. Those who are free from desire for the male organ are born there, so the male organ does not manifest. Therefore, for those who are free from desire, it should be understood that their support does not manifest. The teacher Sangharakshita says: If one is free from desire for the sense faculty, then one is definitely also free from its support. For that very reason, the support of the nose and tongue is manifestly established, so it must be determined that those are not free from desire for the nose and tongue. If one is not free from desire for the support, then one is definitely also not free from desire for the sense faculty. Even if one is free from craving for the sense faculty, it is not contradictory that one is not free from craving for its support because of some need, just like the support of consciousness. For example, even if one is free from craving for eye consciousness and so on, it is not that one is not free from craving for its support because of need, that is, one is born in the second dhyana and so on. Similarly, it can also be said or shown that even if one is free from craving for objects, one is also not free from craving for the sense faculty because of need. As said above, due to the difference in needs, the sense faculty is not harmed. It is unreasonable for the sense faculties of the nose and tongue to be born in the form realm, because it has not been admitted in that way. Then, those that are shown in order to strongly argue for this analogy are also irrelevant. Because of the fear of prolixity, those have been analyzed. It also does not arise because of need. It is not because of need. Then what is it? Because of the cause, and so on. If it is for the marks of a great person, then it is not said in that way, but just as having a cause would make it unbeautiful, it will also occur in that way. Then, in the sutra, "the sense faculties" and so on, this is admitting
