If asked: Does it destroy? The answer is: It is not said to destroy, but it has the ability to destroy. If asked: If it has the ability to destroy, why doesn't it destroy? The answer: Why doesn't it destroy? Is it because a part of the fire element exists? Or is it because the merit of sentient beings is the same? This is a similar reason. When discussing food, this question should also be examined. The Blessed One said, this phrase often appears. Regarding the statement of residing in Jambudvipa, the Blessed One said: All the water that flows from the Jambu grove flows into the ocean, flows into the ocean. Therefore, Jambudvipa itself is called the Jambu grove. Because it is mentioned in the context of food, it should be understood that those born there are those who have food, not referring to tender things, etc. Others say, it does not refer to small people. That is unreasonable, because it says one, referring to each ordinary person residing in the Jambu grove. If asked: What is the difference here? If it is thought that if food is given to a few who are free from desire, more merit will be obtained, then there would be a difference. If food is given to many, more merit will be obtained, what is so amazing about that? Bodhisattva is close, meaning close to Bodhi. This name also does not conform to the meaning, meaning it is not related to the meaning. If asked: Then will it become not just casually said? Therefore, whether it is a Sutra or a Shastra, whatever belongs to the Jambu grove must obtain conformity with the part of discernment, therefore it is said that it is not just casually said. The word Bodhisattva often appears, because going to inspect fields and villages, sitting under the Jambu tree, it is reasonable that only a Bodhisattva can do that. If asked: If one gives to him, isn't the merit greater than giving to hundreds of thousands of Arhats? Therefore it is said, because ordinary people are associated with being free from desire. Through similarity, it is more excellent than those ordinary people who are free from desire.
